I'm just wondering if this cigar was at the Cigar Trade Show and if anyone got a chance to sample it.

Here's the info:

Ernesto Padilla, owner of Padilla Cigars, has made full use of Corojo 2006 tobacco to blend his new Padilla Dominus brand, a cigar that is made solely with this type of Nicaraguan-grown tobacco. The seeds were planted in 2006 in the country's Jalapa and Estelí regions before the crop's harvest in early 2007. The final product is what Padilla calls his most full-bodied cigar to date.

"Aesthetically, Corojo 2006 is a gorgeous, brownish red color," said Padilla. "For growers, it is very resistant to disease and has a high-yield crop. To consumers, the Corojo produces sweetness and spice, but it is very rich and balanced, and at the same time, it is the fullest bodied cigar I make."

And the most expensive. Although the prices are not officially determined, Padilla expects this cigar to retail in the $8 to $15 range. It will be available in seven sizes: Perla, 4 inches by 40 ring gauge; Robusto, 5 by 50; Torpedo, 6 1/8 by 52; Corona Gorda, 5 5/8 by 46; Toro, 6 by 52; Churchill, 7 by 48; and Double Robusto, 5 by 54.

You gotta love cigar makers. Alan Rubin of Alec Bradley is claiming that his new Prensado cigar features Corojo 06 wrapper, the only one to do so.

Looks like there will be two to try. :)

If he has Perlas at $8 a pop no thanks! They may taste great but good god man where does someone have the sense to charge $8 for something that should cost like $2-3. The 1932 Perlas were overpriced unless you could get the cab for $200 because half of them were rolled too tightly.

They were at the show & I got a couple of samples. I have not smoked them yet but if & when I do, I will post back. Padilla's booth was VERY understated this year. Basic hightop tables, & four cylindrical glass display cases. THATS IT. I think they might not have received everything they were supposed to. Plus, the main sales guy there besides ernesto gave us the runaround on another new product they have called the Fumas. He guaranteed us that it was a $1.50 wholesale handmade robusto & claimed that despite the name Fumas, it was long fill. The next day when we went back to sample & possibly purchase it, he denied saying this & also changed the number available in bundles. A little weird, IMO.

These are out now.. I really want to try them, but at $10/stick at cigarsinternational if you buy a 5 pack of robustos.. a bit $$$ for me. If CI sells them for $10/stick or more, then my local retailer is gonna be closer to $15/stick, and thats way too much for me.

Thanks for topping this. I gave my samples away when I split my haul to get reviews done as quickly as possible. Would have wanted to burn this...

Cigar.com had a deal that was 10 of the robustos for $55. Given that, I'm sure we'll see specials on them pretty soon in the $5-6 rang (I agree .... $10 a stick is too much for almost anything for me).
