My hyrgometer seems to be off about 4%. I did the salt test and after 12 hours it read 71rh. I am off about 4%. I understand that when I put the hygromter in my humi, I have to add 4% to the reading to get the acual humidity level. (if it reads 70 in my humi, it's actually 74)

If I switch to beads, I dont have to recalibrate do I? I am assuming the salt test works the same for all humidication devices.

Also I was looking at the 65% bead disc. I am assuming I just have to add water that's it? Do I have to do anything else?

I use beads and completely stopped paying attention to my hygro.I use 65% beads and as long as they are about 50% white 50% clear I am happy. My hygros read about 60-62% most of the time but I assume they are off.

I can't wait until I have enough of a collection to justify a cabinet!! I am still slowly but surely building stock. Thanks to a couple of gentlemen on the boards, I have received a nice variety!!!
Does it say how much distilled water to use?
Twenty5- you said that the beads should be 50% white and 50% clear? What do the color represent and what are the potential problems if there is more of one color ot the other?

When you get the beads they will be dry (white) add moisture to them and they become wet (clear). You need some to be white in order to absorb extra moisture from overly wet cigars, humid days etc. You need some clear for dry days, constant opening and closing etc.. I try to keep them 50/50, seems to work for me. Also, buy more beads than you need, more can never hurt.

I add distilled water to the beads maybe once every 2 months... Keep them in the right temperature and the humidity shouldn't swing too much.

I just switched over to beads in all four of my boxes a couple weeks ago and I have been more than satisfied with their performance. I use the disks and just measured the boxes to make sure I got the appropriate sizes.

Ok, thanks for the advice! i will look in to the tubes. I would still be able to attahced the tubes to the lid with no problems correct? I mean i am assuming it should be alright. i have seen some pics where they are laying right on the cigars. Is there a difference?

Ok, so I figured I am going to go with the tubes. I understand one tube is wet and 1 tube is dry. What ounce tube should i get for the wet and what ounce for the dry?

They will end up both being about the same. If you have 1 wet one and 1 dry and put them in the same box they should even out to be about 50/50. What are the dimensions of your humidor?
