Last year was my first flu shot, ever. Just don't get sick that often.

If they give it to me on my checkup in December, I will, otherwise not planning on it.

If I was a first responder though...I think I would get one.

I am a pharmacy student, and working in the community I have been studying this quite intensely recently. (I designed the distribution system for the KMart's in St. Louis that will be offering the vaccine). First of all I would like to make it very clear that THE VACCINE IS SAFE AND EFFECTIVE. Regardless of what rumors you hear on TV or the internet. This vaccine was designed and manufactured the exact same way as the seasonal flu vaccine, and was put through more thorough clinical testing before it was approved.

That being said I would recommend that anyone who is on the priority list (young children, pregnant women, first responders, and care takers of young children) should get the vaccine. H1N1 is killing children in this country, and the effective way to prevent these deaths is to be vaccinated.

Sorry for getting on my high horse here, but all the misinformation circulating regarding this disease and the vaccine has really been bugging me.

If you do not feel comfortable getting the vaccine, please wash your hands often and stay out of contact with children if you begin to feel ill.

It reminds me of the movie I am Legend where the untested vaccine turned everyone into Zombies. With that being said I got mine a week ago but I am a health care provider.

i keep the hand sanitizer handy. as most of my patients are older, as am i. there does not seem to be as much concern about getting the vaccine, at least the h1n1, for older folks.

You are correct, and this is justified. It seems that people over 55 have greater immunity to this strain than us young 'uns. This is likely because a strain similar to this one has circulated at some point during your lifetime that puts you at an immunological advantage.

This strain is close to the first strain that came out in 1976. There were two different strains then (it mutated) and most older adults still have some built up immunities from this. It is still a good idea to get the vaccine if it is available. And hell the govt. or we the tax payers are paying for it so there is no cost to get it.

There is no cost for you to get it. Sadly a lot of the places that will be offering it to the general public will be charging an administration fee.

I'll get it when it becomes available. My 10 month old son got his first shot already and is due for a second in another month.
The only vaccine available in my area right now is for health care workers, I am on a phone call list to get my daughter one when they come in.

Initially I wasn't going to because of all the government mind control beaming messages into our from space....but then I thought 'why not, they already take most all my money...might as well have my brain too'. :skew:

I'll be getting it at some point this month or next. I've spoken with two friends who work in healthcare and they have both said that they are advising every one of their friends to get it when it's available for them.

Not here. Not because of x or y side effect, but because if a common cold that takes more lives than this hasn't needed a shot, why use one for this? Me dad's a doctor and he isn't getting one either, so I stand by me point.

Actually, we've been trying to make a vaccine for the "common cold" for years. The problem is there are more than 200 different viruses that can cause the "common cold". (I'm actually in Microbiology right now so I had my notebook in front of me to look that up). It is much easier to make a vaccine against 1 pathogen than several hundred.

Neither I nor anyone in my family will be getting it. Read the insert from the vaccine. It does contain several hamful preservatives that have been linked to neurological disorders. Some of these preservatives are mercury derivatives. They argue it is just as safe as the seasonal vaccine, which also has some of these adjuvants and preservatives in it. So they are saying it is as safe as an already questionable vaccine. Many health care professionals around the world are very reluctant to take the shot as am I.
