I am a pharmacy student, and working in the community I have been studying this quite intensely recently. (I designed the distribution system for the KMart's in St. Louis that will be offering the vaccine). First of all I would like to make it very clear that THE VACCINE IS SAFE AND EFFECTIVE. Regardless of what rumors you hear on TV or the internet. This vaccine was designed and manufactured the exact same way as the seasonal flu vaccine, and was put through more thorough clinical testing before it was approved.
That being said I would recommend that anyone who is on the priority list (young children, pregnant women, first responders, and care takers of young children) should get the vaccine. H1N1 is killing children in this country, and the effective way to prevent these deaths is to be vaccinated.
Sorry for getting on my high horse here, but all the misinformation circulating regarding this disease and the vaccine has really been bugging me.
If you do not feel comfortable getting the vaccine, please wash your hands often and stay out of contact with children if you begin to feel ill.
