:help:I'm in the market for a new laptop and think I have it narrowed down to two models. I have a question about processors though and was hoping someone on here could help me out.:help:

The first model is the Asus UL50A and the 2nd is the Asus U50AG. Both (I believe) are only sold at Best Buy. The A model is $630 and the AG is $680. They are almost identical with exception to the processors and battery.

While they are both Intel Core 2 Duos, the A model comes with the T6600 which operates at 2.2GHz with 800MHz system bus. The AG comes with the SU7300 which operates at 1.3GHz but has a bus speed of 1066MHz.

Both units have a 500GB hard drive and 4GB of DDR2 mem. The AG has a 8 cell battery vs. the 6 cell on the A.

This laptop will be used for internet and storing a fair amount of pictures and MP3s. No gaming or Photoshop type programs will be run on it.

1st question: Is the T6600 inferior to the SU7300 because of the bus speed?

2nd question: In your opinion, which laptop would you go with based on what it is being used for?

Final question: Do you know of any other laptops in this price range that you would recommend over an Asus? I'm very familiar and have been pleased with Asus' PCs but have no knowledge of their laptops reliability.

Thanks in advance for any help!!

No the reason the SU7300 is more is because it supports intel's virtualization technology. which wouldn't make a bit a diffence for your usage. Actually that is a lot of proccessor if all you want is to surf the net and store pictures.

Great, thanks for the info! Based on your comments, do you think i could go with a slower processor in trade for a 17" screen and not compromise MP3 download speeds?

HP's in that price range have been reliable in my experience. My girlfriend just picked up a very nice white model for $675 or so and it's a beast.

Thanks Patrick. I don't know much about HP. I hate reading reviews on computers (or any product for that matter) because you don't know which are biased. I also don't put any stock in the reviews that are so angry and have more grammatical errors than something my 7 year old can put together.

Yet another way to utilize the BOTL!

On a side note, I was able to find this model for $550 (after a $50 mail in rebate) at Office Depot.

Thanks guys!
