I've recently learned that Opus X are best at a year or more age. Are Anejo's similar or are they more 'smokeable" when first released?

They don't NEED to age, but the older they are, the better...Some of the best sticks I have ever had have been OR Anejo's....

Actually that depends on personal preference. One of the biggest Opus junkies I know will trade an older Opus for a fresh one everyday of the week. When fresh they as well as the Anejos have more pop when fresh. When they age they tend to mellow out and become smoother.

For me, the last Opus X that I really enjoyed was 1996, I had 10 Double Corona's and I cried the day I smoked the last one....but that's just me.

Does anyone know if they are in stores now? I haven't been able to find either Opus or Anejos anywhere around me and I do not want to even think about ordering something crazy like one from Cigar.com.

I have a set of Perfexion X (didn't get a box, so I figure "set" is the right term, lol)- from 2008. They seem to be getting better at 6 months then 1 year. The one I intend to smoke for Christmas will be 1.5 years, and I'm expecting wonders out of it.

Great fresh, plus no reason not to age them.

Does TPS usually get in the holiday Fuentes at a good price?

I've not had an Anejo yet myself, and just had my first Opus (loved it!). I know that they have the same exact filler--the Anejo is basically an Opus Maduro.

and the tobacco is aged in sherrie oak casts...hence that sherrie flavor

Wouldn't you like to know?
No I believe anejo are a mix of opus, hemmingway and don carlos fillers. And the congac barrel aging add's a little to the wrapper flavour as well. Not the same as opus maduro but way easier to find.

I have heard cognac and I have heard sherrie...tastes more like sherrie than cognac I think.

They certainly seem to be trickling out. Barclay Rex here in NYC had Opus and Anejos a few weeks back. Opus were 2 to a customer, Anejo were by the box. That's where I snagged the box I posted in the "latest purchase" thread.

Last I checked they had sold out of both, but gotten the DC Maximus in. If the for sale posts are any indication, they seem to be hitting stores in other regions, as well.
