Freezing that section of my humi now....Looks like only 3 westies affected....

Trying to figure out if I want to freeze the entire humi or not. Not damage to the other sticks......Not leaf dust in other sections, not holes......Cello stick are fine...Suggestions?

This beetle was ALIVE!!!

Eric you have the worst luck with beetles! What is the temp at in your humi? You might need to relocate to a cooler spot!

That is just plain scary! Haven't had the misfortune of that as of yet, but I do worry during the summer.

In all my reading on the subject, and I know what opinions are like, but I would be very tempted to freeze everything just to try to prevent it from happening again. Hopefully your problem goes away!

Westies were bough from that last store in New Orleans I think....

This was no where near the blacks and was not my "High Priced" humidor.....

The temp has not gone above 71f as this is stored in the basement here in Ohio...No way to regulate temp otherwise....Current temps reading 68f

There was one beatle hole in one of the Westies and then tracks on the foot of two others...Not other holes were found, one dead beetle was found. So 2 total...

Wow I was under the impression that those little suckers could not hatch unless temps were up in the mid 70s. Maybe that sucker hatched over the summer and has been eating through the stick since.

+1 and/or humidity going above 75ish. Is the humidity high in the basement, Eric?

Nope...Humidity kept at 65% with beads....Dehumidifer running in the basement.....

Humidity never above 70% (sans refresh of the beads but not for more than an hour)

If you haven't tired them yet, the vacuum seal bags are great for this, dont suck out so much air it crushes the cigars, but just holds them firm. Will all but eliminate splits and damages. Leave them in the bag through the defrost as well, and then just crack open the bags to let them start breathing.

Also, down here in South Florida I swear by temp control. Keep it under 70 and your life and sleep is better.

Just to play it safe, I would do what Mitch is suggesting to "all" the cigars in the infected humidor.

I have never seen a beetle before. I always thought it was one of those things that you hear about, but never actually see it happen. BUMMER!
