Has anyone tried this thing?

I picked up a Partagas LR 2008 #1 at a B&M as a celebratory splurge and absolutely loved it. I found it to be a fascinating parade of flavors, and it easily found it's way into my "Reasons I Smoke Cigars" category.

When I ran across a sweet deal on the 2006 #3's at an online auction site I jumped on a 5er. Smoked my first one the other day. I didn't care for it at all. Harsh, with a nagging paper flavor, and none of the subtle complexity I'd enjoyed previously.

Now I'm wondering, was one of those two experiences atypical, or is there that much variation in the years/viotlas? Does anyone have any experience with this cigar? I'd love to get another opinion.

Thanks

LOL... Was it a crystal Maduro ??
I wish! Those things seem real popular lately. If my humi wasn't full, I might have to pick up the one in the for-sale thread. :headroll:

As for the Partagas, I may just need to smoke another as a tie breaker.

I was gifted a few, a couple years ago by the guy that introduced me to this board (Steelcitysmoker).

I smoked one about a year ago and I enjoyed it. Although my taste is always changing I may think otherwise now.

The smokes that I was gifted are Partagas 2006 #IVs.

I bought a box of the #1's (rothschild) a few months ago, gave a couple to my son and we finally got around to busting one out last night during our weekly phone chat. We both enjoyed them immensely. A very complex palate of flavors there in the aged leaf. I'll have to smoke a couple more before I do a review, but at this time, they're on the top shelf.

I have smoked the LR that has the two green bands, v the green and red. I don't know what year they are but I really enjoyed them. At $18-20 a pc they weren't the best buy, other than the price I had no complaints. It was a nice smooth and mellow smoke from what I remember. It has been months since I last smoked one and I'm curious to see what I think now, I'll have to revisit them soon.

The one I didn't enjoy was a bit on the dry side when I smoked it, I had it at the very bottom of a humidor that was having some airflow issues. I'll have to try again at a slightly higher humidity and see if that makes a difference. I really liked the first one!
