I keep my temp controlled Arisocrat M in my bedroom. I got it late in the summer. But, the humidity would still spike (70%+) in it for extended periods of time to where it would be above my comfort zone. I know I won't have this problem in the winter.
So, I was thinking about buying a dehumidifier 40-60 pint capacity and run it during the summer months. Anyone think this is the best solution to combat the humid MS summer? Beads just didn't work well enough for me. Thanks guys.

I thankfully do not have that issue, but in reading through the manual that came with my aristocrat is suggests doing exactly what you just wrote. If you do no get an answer here, you can email Bob at humidors1@aol.com

I am sure Ron will have the answer though...

room dehumidifier will help. also, you can empty or remove your humidity canister during the summer months.

this is a very common problem with cooled cabinets. its just about physics. cooling a humidified area will increase relative humidity. so between the humidity in your cigars, the wood of the cabinet, and just the humid air, your humidity is spiking because the inside of your cabinet is being cooled. If somebody lives in a very dry area, they wont run into this problem.

beads can always help. i think the main problem is that when the cooling unit is running, it raises the humidity faster then the beads can react. so while beads will always help, my experience is they do not solve the issue completely.

Cliff,
I had the same problem. I take out the canisters and place kitty litter in empty boxes in the cabinet all srping & summer. I keep mine @ 65* and 62-65% humidity year round with this method. It has worked for 6+ years. Beads will not remove the humidity very fast, the kl will do it a a day or two. when it starts to climb I add kl and dry what is already in there. I bought 8lbs of kl and have not used it all in 6 years.

You're right Ron. I noticed that right away. The cooler cuts on and the humidity spikes. The beads did nothing for me & my humidity problems.
Do you recommend a certain kitty litter? The only problem with that is putting it in with thousands of dollars of cigars. I might try the kitty litter when it starts to get humid outside and if I'm not happy with it switch to the dehumidifier.

mine are Pearl somthing from PetsMart but they don't have them anymore. I have links to some others at my work computor. Just make sure they are 100% silica, this is the main ingredient in beads with salt being another.

i have the same problem and in my humi I have 6 pounds of beads, doesn't do anything, so I just don't try to cool my cigars as much, I usually have the temp at 65 degrees, but in humid summer months I set it for 72 and it's been fine, the cooling unit draws the humidity in when it's running, so I make sure it's not on all day long

The link above is the brand I've used. It holds 67% to 68% for me in my humidor and coolidor. Look around and you might find it cheaper.

Keep in mind that if your house is above 68% it will absorb excess moisture until that point until they are saturated. After that they will do nothing unless you dry them out.

sascha touched on a good point. keep your temp set to 70 for best performance. if set below 70, your cooling runs too much, and causes greater humidity spikes.

When my Vino kicks on, RH spikes for about 30-45 secs then lowers........When the Vino is running, the RH is at its lowest usually........Only when the Vino cuts off, does the RH start to rise again........So in theory, my RH is at its peak right before the Vino turns itself on again

My temp range lately has been 62-64* with the RH ranging from 62-66%.......all numbers I am comfortable with
