I am very excited because today I am getting a "new" car!! I have had my 2000 Galant since 2000 and it is now in a bit of rough condition. There is a lot of work to be done such as fixing the suspension and now brakes so I am getting a good deal from my in-laws. I am buying their 2004 Camry for $4000. Since we have been pretty broke lately with the new baby (I don't feel like I have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of lol) they are letting us make $100 payments each month with no interest. I am very thankful I will now have a dependable car for my wife and three kids to ride in (including a 6 week old baby boy :applause: )
Now...Since I am buying the Camry and not trading in my car, I had a good thought about what to do with it. I could really use some money, even $1200 or $1000 but I am thinking of giving it to my wife's cousin. He is only 18 but is good with working on cars and such and could definitely fix it up.
The reason I think I would rather give it to him than sell it is the fact he has not had an easy life. His mother is a raging alcoholic and needs a liver transplant, he has 2 younger siblings that he takes care of, including driving them to school each day and picking them up (all while he is still in high school). He does not have a car but rather uses his mom's and she continuously holds it over his head and belittles him. I have been proud of him for staying in school and doing so much for his family so I think it would mean a lot to him (and me) for him to have something of his own that would be a reward for sticking in school and being so good to his family (while I never hear one word of him griping). He is a good kid but I think has a tough road ahead of him. I thought about asking him to come over to look at my brakes and then talking to him a bit to say I was thinking of selling my car. I think I will ask him if he wants to buy it and when he says "How much?" I will just say, "How much do you have in your pocket?" If it is a dollar, so be it. I need some money but I never had a family bigger than just me, my mom and my grandfather (my father was literally never, ever there) so I think it would be a great idea. I know it needs some work but I am sure he could do it and I imagine he would love it.
Sorry for the long post, just excited lol. I am very thankful for my family and all friends I have met via BOTL. Thank you for letting me share.
