I've got a friend who has a friend who smokes the Excaliber Maddies for a daily smoke. My friend wants to get him somthing nice but we want to stay close to what we know he will like, so what's a step up from a HdM Ex Maddy, but match some of the flavors.

I haven't had one of these in years and never liked them, so I'm a poor judge.

Thanks for looking.

a La Aurora Preferido Maduro would be a big step up ... pricey, though. And you can't go wrong with a Hemingway Maduro, of course. Those are both Dominican like the HdM Ex.

Not sure if it is a step up or not but if he likes the HDM Excalibur then he might like the Hoyo de Tradicion Toro.

I'd have said to keep in the same relative price point, I'd go to the fuente 858 maddy, or slide over to a partagas black. That is if your are looking to stay at a certain price point.

As stated previously, I have a box of Excalibur Maduros that are from pre-2004 that I won't smoke. If you want to pick them up, they might be the best marriage of what he likes & what's a step up in flavor compared to the norm. PM me if interested

Thanks for the offer, but I think the point is to give him something different.

imo, hemingways are a differnt taste altogether. i found excaliburs to be much more creamy,,, hemmy's more leather and spice. i agree with the la aurora maduro. closer match....
