Cohiba Gran Reserva - Should I buy one?

Howdy All:

I hope you are doing great.

I am in Spain this week and stopped by a local shop in Madrid and they have the Cohiba Gran Reserva. It is 45 Euro or about $65. Should I jump on one of these? It seems like a great price for what is supposed to be a great smoke.

Could be a bit of a Christmas present to myself. Although my wife would kill me if I told her.

Also, anyone know of a cigar lounge in Madrid where I could enjoy it?

Spain has favorable trading status with Cuba and the Spanish government sets the price of tobacco ergo the lower price. If it's at one of the bigger estancos then you're fine. Grab one at that price because you will never see it lower anywhere else. Let us know how it smokes and enjoy!

Thanks for the thoughts. It is indeed from one of the bigger shops in town that has a very nice walk in humidor with many other special editions as well. I bought about ten of those earlier this week but just could not see spending that much money on one cigar.

But it is a good price and it is the holiday season.

I am not going to pronounce anything about their authenticity, but I believe that is close to the original price tag I heard of around 700 US.

that said, I wonder what these are selling for in Havana. I don't think Spain would be any less than the price in Cuba.

Those Cohibas sell for about $50 (equivalent U.S.) here, but I know tobacco tariffs vary widely nation to nation.

If you've never had one, buy it and smoke the Cohiba or you will forevermore kick yourself for not doing so. But having tried them both, for my money, I would invest in half a dozen Dannemann's for the same price (Artist Line, Especial or plain Dannemann Churchill.) Should be available in most European stores. For the cost of the Dannemann's, in the end you will have as much smoking enjoyment, but for a great deal longer amount of time.

Cuban price is supposed to be a little of $50 a stick. Most places will sell them for $90-$160 a stick depending on region. Generally I believe that spain prices are about 10-15% above the prices in Havana. The Spanish price should be the best outside of Cuba itself.

Ok, you guys were all correct. I would be forever regretting not having one. But having said that I have a hard time just buying one cigar because I usually want to have at least one more. So I bought two of them. They did have a couple of boxes available at 675 Euro, I wish I had the means for a whole box.
