So we found out that all but three people on our shift can have off on Christmas (tentatively). One of people I dislike most in my life is one who had a hand in making the schedule. She conveniently gave herself Christmas off and I was lucky enough to get to work Christmas. She knows I don't like her, along with most people here, and for whatever reason my supervisor caters to her and lets her do what she wants. She's supposed to be an "assistant supervisor" (although she's the only one that views her as such) and leads by giving herself the holidays off! Oh, btw, she's single and her children are all grown. I'm newly married and will be in our house for the first time soon. I understand somebody has to work Christmas, but it's convenient that she gives herself the day off and makes me work...

Sorry guys and gals, needed to get it off my chest and the wife will just flip out...

That blows! I know it is going out on a limb...but tell her what your scenario is. She should know what it is like to be there and how much it would mean to you! And if she still says no...key her car:)

Vent away my brother, that's what friends are here for!

If it was me I'd take a chit in her purse or her desk drawer!

Just do it and then enjoy the time with your family. I understand. My first Thanksgiving after being married on November 12th, my supervisor made me work on Thanksgiving instead of having Thanksgiving lunch with the new family. I was pissed and we got slammed at work, it was just me a 2 drivers. It is just a memory now. Don't worry you will have many more memories, just make the time special, it's Christmas all day long. Now being a single father I don't get "Christmas" each year with the girls. It's just a date on the calendar, we celebrate when they get back.

She sounds like Dwight on "The Office". I guess women can be douche bags after all. She'll get her's one day, in the meantime don't let it ruin that new house vibe.

Hey at least you have a job. Does it pay overtime for holiday hours by any chance? I don't know what you do, will you even be busy? Is it a full shift? I understand being pissed, but hell, like Plush said, in the scheme of things, this will be a distant memory. Does she have seniority over you? Been there longer?
Just relax, enjoy your time at home, and think of the bigger picture.

Then let the air out of her tires.

Call in a bomb threat...her supervisor will be contacted and he will call her and make her go and take care of things....the other employees will be released...hopefully she'll have to wait around and talk to the police and fire departments....

p.s. don't call from home

really, you'll have a great xmas when you get home

You're right, do have a job that pays fairly well.

No, I don't get paid OT at all, let alone extra on holidays
I probably won't do a darn thing all day
In the grand scheme of things it's nothing, right now I'm pissed lol
She has seniority over me
She has been there longer than me
In this line of work those types of people let the lower-ranking people have holidays with their (primarily) newly-established families

I need to clarify with this just to keep my name clear. I don't mind that I'm working Christmas, it's the first of many and it won't be the last. I do mind the principle of the fact that she deliberately formatted the schedule to do so. Really I expected to work Christmas. I'm not about that, I'm just mad that I have to deal with her every day and it's like she won this battle and rubbed it in my face that although nobody where we work likes her, she still got her way.... it's the nature of the beast, I guess, and I just gotta suck it up and drive on, right?

Thanks for all the encouragement! This is truly a group of friends, not online acquaintances!

It sucks but that's life. Being low man on the totem pole myself I have experienced more then my fair share of crappy superiors. But on a day like Christmas you know the work will be easy so really you can laugh while you make easy money and she is at home wondering what to do. Wake everyone up before you head off to work make some wonderful Christmas memories and then while your at work everyone can go back to sleep. My dad to this very day wakes us all up super early, like at 0430 which this year will finally not be early for me, because he cannot wait any longer for us. It is all what you make of it.

Regardless of career, I have spent many of Christmas at work, this will be the first I have had both Christmas Eve and Christmas day off in 10 years. There are many jobs that make you work them, and if you look deep down there is a reason you are there on those days, then one day you finally get rewarded, it is at that time one should take a moment to thank those that will do such things for you.
