My mother in law called me a bit ago to ask if I know who sent a huge basket of christmas gifts with all of our names on it. It seems some one send us all a gift and enough food for dinner for the family. This is very humbling for us because its unexpected.

Very happy for you. It is wonderful when you get something unexpected like that. It is obvious that your family is in someone’s thoughts and that they think very fondly of you.
Congrats!

I read this twice with sadness and hope. I have served in soup kitchens, donated to food drives etc. Helping others was something ingrained in us as kids by good parents, scouts and church. But it was always distant. Those less fortunate. This year it has hit so close to home. Long time friends trying to hold onto their homes. Some won, some lost. Untold number of friends unemployed looking at bleak or non-existent Christmas's. Friends bypassing meals, cigars, soft drinks as they hang around the shop. It is so close this year I can see feel and taste it. Bleak.

Then a little ray of hope. People do care. People can do the right thing. Whomever gave your family the basket. People like Bill who help fallen comrades. People on this board who help others in need. Not out of charity. Not out of a sense of requirment or place or respect. Out of hope. Hope that somewhere, some how, life will be a little better for another human being. It's all we have folks.

God bless you and your family my friend. Your story has given me hope.

Well Said bro! I know if it wasn't for the Family I had here this year would have been hopeless. My family has all we NEED even thought we have had to get rid of stuff we want. I have never went hungry or without a house or heat. I also know that next year is going to be better and we will survive. I know most of you who chat with me would not know how hard it has been for the family and I nor would I want to dwell on the status. I am working on getting my BA so that I can find a better more stable job for my family. We are very blessed that the wife has a great job that has allowed here to work full time when she is a part time employee after having Josh in March. I try to joke a lot in chat and enjoy spending time with my online family here. The generosity on BOTL is the best I have ever seen. Thank you all and have a merry Christmas and prayers sent to others in the same position we are in!
