Thinking strongly of getting a kerosene heater. The temp here is going to be in the single digits. Our heat pump isn't really cutting it. Last month our electric bill was close to $200. This month I know its going to be a lot higher. We run 2 space heaters to try and supplement but it seems like we are just wasting money. A buddy of mine runs one at his house and its usually around 75 degrees. I would be happy with 70! Let me know what yall think.

I used to use one in the garage, but I haven't used one in the house. Luckily, I have a fireplace instead.

Not sure I could deal with the odor.....I installed a electric baseboard heater in my basement office and it works great. Not sure if that will fit your situation or not...

If I had the choice I would install a small pellet stove over a kerosene heater..food for thought.

The smell is not bad. We ran two in a samll house and never noticed anything. We however had a 55 gallon drum we would fill every with fuel. how much that cost? I don't know

My dad has a hunting cabin near our mountain house, when we go hunting we use a kerosene heater, sometimes 2. They work very well, and this is a drafty little place that isn't insulated. I couldn't give you an exact temp, but it definitely makes it comfortable.
There is a noticeable smell and I don't know what it would cost to run regularly.

Not gunna lie...karosene has always freaked me a little. From Michigan you see on the news every couple days where someones house burnt down from pets running into it or getting too close to something flamable. If you have the option of natural gas (which I am gessing no with electic comments) I would go with that. you can pick up a ventless unit for same price.
I would say if you can't get gas...try to find a more efficient electric heater and some electric blankets. Just my .02 though. A lot of people use Karosene with no issues ever...just something to keep in mind when using.

Im from D.C. and every year I would hear similar stories about houses getting burnt down. Usually due to negligence. We dont have any pets, other than fish, and no kids so I think we should be ok. We have one of those oil filled heaters in our bedroom and that does the trick in there. My man cave on the other hand is usually at 58-59 before I kick on the space heater and then it only gets up to about 63 after being on for a couple of hours. The wife got the last 23,000 BTU kerosene heater from Home Depot tonight. So, I guess we shall see.

I rarely use my heater, my house has gas for that and last month it was $40 and that is using the spa about 5 times as well. I just were a hoodie most of the time around the house and some slippers. When I wake up it is normally around 58 in the house. I crank it on while we are getting ready for school and work. Then it is off the rest of the day. It normally stays around 63-65 in here, kinda like my humi. I do have a dual burner propane heater that I use in the garage or outside when I'm smoking. Isn't propane cleaner burning than kerosene?

Kerosene is okay. There is some smell to it and overall it isn't cheap. Propane might be a better option or an electric blanket.

We had one for years while I was a kid in SC with no issues, but becareful when you fill it. If you spill some on the outside of it the house wil smell some, no way around it.
