Appearance: This cigar cigar has a nice meduim tan wrapper with a few minor veins and is a classic 5'' by 50rg robusto with no soft or hard spots. A very flat cap and a definite box press.

Drink: I enjoyed this cigar with a rum and coke my favorite drink to enjoy with a cigar.

I plugged this cigar with a punch and a perfect cigarette size hole was formed. The prelight draw was good and I could taste spice and tobacco.

1/3rd: Tourched this cigar with my Zippo tourch insert and I was hit with a flavors of spice and strong earthy leather. The cigar drew well. Not to tight and not to easy. The cigar had a nice dark grey marble colored ash.

2/3rd: As the earthy flavores went away the meduim spice and leather flavors mellowed out a bit and was very enjoyable. The cigar burn got a little uneven and I had to do a touch up to even it back out. Just past the midway point I tasted some nice floral/citrus like flavors well but it dissapeared quickly.

Final 3rd: The spicy leathery tobacco like flavors remained smooth, but all of a sudden the flavors became stronger then mellowed out towards the last inch with some woodsy flavor to it as well. Maintained a nice even burn after the mid way touch up and bunt well all the way to the nub. Total smoking time was about 50 minutes.

Final thoughts: This would recomend this Robusto to anyone who enjoys a good med-full bodied cigar and feel that it will only get better with age.

Overall score: 90

Prelight
Silky wrapper, nice box press, beautifully done triple cap, very few veins.
After cutting, the draw is good, with just enough resistance.

First Third
This cigar lit well, and provided initial notes of leather and sort of a graham cracker taste.
There is a mildly unpleasant finish of dry grass and paper.
The ash is solid and strong, and the burn is even and true, and the aroma is sweet and pleasant.

Second Third
The flavor profile of this cigar is difficult to describe, as it is very bland. There are no real flavors that present themselves, aside form graham crackers, leather, and charred wood that are intermittent and short lived. The background of solid tobacco and oak dominate any flavors that try to peek through.
The finish remains unpleasant, changing to a metallic taste.
The beautiful dark grey ash remains solid, and has yet to drop.

Last Third
I kept hoping that the last third of this cigar would turn around, but it basically remains the same in terms of flavor.
The construction is very good, as evident by the burn, ash, and the ideal cone-shaped cherry when the ash (finally) dropped. The nice aroma has stayed throughout.

Closing
I mean no offense to whoever supplied this cigar (and who knows…It may just be the bad apple of the group, or even the box) but I found it to be disappointing. This light to medium bodied cigar had good craftsmanship, and even a nice aroma; but there was not much there for the palate to enjoy.

Score: 40/100

Cigar One Review

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was a beautiful looking cigar! It was very firmly constructed and well packed. The wrapper was a light colored wrapper, looking to be a Colorado Claro wrapper to me. Smooth and leathery, the wrapper was free of blemishes and very lightly veined. The triple cap was well done and very flat on the top. I was very excited to give this a try. After cutting it with my SAK, the pre light draw was very nice, not too loose.
The initial flavors after lighting were somewhat sweet to me, with a touch of vanilla bean. This was a medium strength cigar, very pleasant and flavorful. The flavors held very consistently throughout the first third of the cigar. I wouldn’t call this a particularly complex cigar, but very enjoyable nonetheless.
The ash was very firm and held its shape nicely. Not flaky at all. When the ash fell off at about an inch there was a nicely shaped cone too. The burn was great too, very straight. There was a nice body of smoke with this cigar; lots of smoke.
At about the halfway point I had a little trouble keeping the cigar lit. I’m not sure why, but the burn got a little weird shaped, and after about fifteen minutes of this it corrected itself. I guess it was an anomaly in the construction of the cigar. The flavors started to intensify a bit after this too. The flavors started to get a bit more woodsy but still those sweet overtones were there. I let it go out with about an inch left.
I really enjoyed this cigar a lot. As for my guess as to what it is, I’m a little confused by it. My thought is that it might be a Cohiba Robusto.

This cigar is a beautiful box pressed robusto that I'd guess is at least 2 or 3 years old by how well it still was holding the press after being in a baggie for 3 weeks. The appearance was a beautiful colorado claro wrapper with a bit of a new style triple cap that I've seen on a number of Cubans recently. Clipping it revealed an absolutely perfect draw for me. Resistant while not requiring difficulty to pull.

Initial flavors were gobs of honey & cinnamon with a kick of floral hits on the retrohale. Leather (a flavor I don't get too often) made its way in after a bit emphasizing the savory core that this cigar had. It was sweet but in the way that you sometimes put a dash of sugar into a spicy dish to give it some balance. The core is of savory tobacco but the frosting is worth smacking your lips over. A natural progression the cigar showed eliminated the sweetness leaving a thoroughly enjoyable ballsy core of spice leather & pepper that lasted well over 90 minutes.

I'd rate the cigar a solid 92, swear on my life that it was a RASS and guess that it was from 2007 by the developed flavors yet apparent youth. It had perfect construction, beautiful appearance, no apparent problems throughout the experience but did not hold onto my preferred flavors throughout the entire length. A great cigar that turned away from one of my favorite profiles (honey, spice & floral) into a great savory spice bomb.

Appearance - Classic Cuban box pressed robusto. Has a couple of small veins and a nice chocolate brown wrapper with a decent cap.

Drink - Club Soda

Pre light draw - Familiar barn yard tastes and a little of one of my favorite female body parts.

1/3 Pretty aggressive on the first few puffs, almost on the verge of being harsh. Draw is a little firm. A few puffs more and it's starting to warm up.

2/3 - Now we are rolling - Spice, leather and coco backbone. Drawing better with good amounts of billowing smoke and nice balance.

Final 3rd - Turning woody with a good long finish.

Overall thoughts - I enjoyed it this smoke, classic Cuban flavors with good balance. I think I have smoked it's siblings before. Definitely a worthy robusto for the humidor.

Score 90 points

My guess is a Bolivar Royal Corona
Thanks,

This cigar had a nice medium brown, oily wrapper. Minor veins and no construction issues noted. Well applied cap. Pre-light hints of spice (white pepper), citrus and light coffee. After cutting the cigar with my Palio cutter, tastes of white pepper, cinnamon, light lemon/orange and light espresso were present. No issues in the draw, as this cigar had the perfect amount of restriction.

I paired this one with Vernor's aged ginger ale, as I was just getting over a bad cold.

I toasted this cigar with my Dupont Xtend and this cigar took off. Lots of light grey smoke, which allowed for me to blow lots of smoke rings. The citrus, earhty flavor was excellent, wiht a hint of floral notes. The spice and coffee flavors added to my enjoyment of this cigar.

All thirds of this cigar remained the same from start to finish. A great burn, great draw and good flavors remianed during my hour and 10 minutes of smoking this.

Coing off a cold and smoking this cigar was definitely a plus, as this is one that I have enjoyed many times. I know this was a RASS, based on the shape and flavor profile of this cigar.

Overall, this is a wonderful cigar that is always in my rotation. I scored this one as a 91.

Funny, I enjoy the RASS...In fact, I have 3 boxes in my humi with various ages on them.

I can only attribute it to the general inconsistency of any cigar line, where you can go through a whole box, and there are sometimes 1 or 2 that just don't hit the mark.

I was not drinking anything during the smoke that would have possibly adversely affected my palate, and it burned well so I don't think there was an issue there.

Oh well! :)

I'd be interested if anyone has ever done this sort of a test with a group of N/Cs, or cigars we have no doubt about consistency with. I say this because I think it may have more to do with individual smoker and his/her palate at that moment than it does the cigars. I can't be sure but the more I learn about cigars and the fact that they're blended with tobacco from different regions, fermented for different periods of time, and with different strains, I think it would be harder for all of that to go wrong at once. Any opinions?

I agree that mood, recently consumed food, aromas in the air, and a host of other subtleties can affect the palate and/or the experience of smoking a cigar.

And to your point, if even one of those items you listed "goes wrong", then that could completely change the flavor profile of that particular cigar. For example, if you produce two batches of "X" cigar, but you ferment the leaves 6 months longer in one batch than the other, you will definitely notice a difference between the two batches….Especially if you are accustomed to the flavor profile of that brand and vitola. One person may note this difference as bad, the next person may love it.
