So here is the description:

ORIGINAL FINISH, CEDAR LINED, GREAT FOR STORAGE, ROUGHLY 6 1/2' TALL X 48" W X 24" D, GOOD CONDITION CONSIDERING THE AGE.

So I am thinking this would make one hell of a humi cabinet...I have aked the question to the person selling what type of cedar it has in it (I know I can't use aromatic). Do you think this would be a nightmare to seal up properly? What would you use to seal it? I would much rather drop the coin on the cigars than a super expensive cabinet....if I could get the cabinet to work. Would you use a MoistNAire unit? What are the other options to convert such a piece?

Gonna be a pretty big project to seal , and the cedar chest, and wardrobes you find usually use aromatic cedar to ward off the moths. You could remove the cedar lining and replace it with spanish, but unless you are good with wood, I woud suggest a wine cooler

I am sure it is possible you could seal it. I do know for sure that cedar and spanish cedar (used for cigars) are two completely different things. I would look into the wood issue first.

I have one something similar I have in the works (old ice box). I have gutted it out. I am going to Tyvec it, then I have 1/2 foam insulation, then I will build a box of plywood, then Spanish cedar. It is all just sitting in the garage, sans the Spanish cedar.

kinda what it looks like now

Cool...where can I even get spanish cedar? source?
There are a number of sources on-line like this: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Spanish-Cedar-Veneer-24-48/dp/B001DT1VAK"]Amazon.com: Spanish Cedar Veneer, 24'' x 48'': Home Improvement[/ame]
It would be least expensive to seal the inside walls and then us a spanish cedar veneer to cover more area. The thicker pieces will be comprised of shelving, cedar trays, etc. You do need some larger pieces to help as a humidity buffer when the RH swings low or high.

I've got a bunch of Spanish cedar veneer that I can let go for cheap.

On my cabinet conversion I didn't do too much to seal it up. It's a beast of an old cabinet that didn't appear to have any leaks. I built a plywood liner and lined the edge with weather stripping. I hope that does the trick.

You might be better off with 1/4 Spanish Cedar plywood, especially if you never worked with veneers and in my opinion it's better than a 16th veneer. It's usually a 3ply with a mahogany core with is fine. Its about $76 for a 4x8 sheet online or have a local lumber yard check it out for you. Part of the idea of the cedar is to hold some humidity I don't figure a 16th holding that much. When I build my cabinet that's what I'll be using. You could probably use the plywood to help seal it up as well with recesses or overlaps and weather stripping.

Spanish Cedar veneer face with mahogany core and back. Mahogany has the same properties as the Spanish Cedar just not the aroma that's what the veneer does. The extra thickness you get with the mahogany helps retain some humidity.

Your closet is probably typical cedar closet liners which is tongue & groove and aromatic meant more for keeping critters off your clothes. Spanish cedar is actually not even really cedar believe it or not.
