when the drawer gets put back into place, I assume that there is a lock that engages. is there a snug fit? is there some type of foam seal?

just like any other cabinet, you do need a seal on each of those drawers.

There is a seal around each drawer on all sides. I dont lock the locks because its in my house and I hope I dont ever get to the point that I have to steal my own smokes......

question is does the lock itself pull the drawer into place and create the seal?
No. There is a line cut in the top of the cabinet above each drawer wher the lock would go but its nothing like a positive pressure type mechanism. Very basic.

with you struggling to get humidity above 61, you have to look at your humidity system, a poor seal, or a combo of both being the culprit.

do the dollar bill test on some of the drawers. that should give you a good idea if its the seal.

also, your humidifier belongs on the bottom of the humidor. humidity rises. thats why you see todays cabinet makers put humidifiers on the bottom of a cabinet. then as a cabinet gets taller, they will put more humidity canisters in the middle. I know that they designed it that way, but its not ideal. You can make big improvements.

I have a second unit and a fan kit coming and was planning on putting it on the botttom. There really isnt the space on the bottom behind the drawers for the Moist-N-Air unit, but the Hydra commercial will fit perfectly.

are you going to use every drawer? if not, you could easy modify a bottom drawer to hold a humidifier

Check for leaks....Probably not the entire problem, but could be part of it.

Good luck! Love to see a pic of it whenever you can.

is the moist n aire running a lot? going through a lot of water?
It hasnt stopped and I have gone through like 7 gallons of water. I know the thing sat empty and dry for 5 years but I figured it would come back faster. It started at 39% and has come up to 61 % so at least I'm making some progress.

if its running almost non stop, its leaking.
I have sealed anything that could be thought of as a leak except for anything on the front. How much capacity does a Moist-N-Aire have? Like 50 cu ft? This thing is 60 and dry as kindling on an Arizona summer day. There is nothing that can be done with the drawer fronts, so i figured a second unit would have to work. I put a regular household humidifer in there for like an hour and the RH shot up to 68%.

that moist n aire is not the perfect humidifier, but it is capable of doing the 60 cu ft. smallroom humidifiers can do 400, so the room humidifier is just more powerful than the leak.

just try the hydra, and see what happens.

Thanks for the conversation. It will be here in afew days and i will let you know the outcome. If it doesnt work the thing will make a hell of a storage unit.
