Hey everyone, I am new to BOTL but not a newbie cigar smoker. I have enjoyed cigars over the last 15 years.

Anyway I am looking to purchase a thermoelectric wine cooler and I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with the Edge Star 28 bottle wine cooler.

I cannot find the Vinotemp 28 bottle cooler for less than $400 delivered. I have found the Edgestar for less than $250 delivered. I saw that the Avanti 28 bottle cooler is approx $150 on Target but the reviews on the Avanti were not good. Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the brotherhood. What sticks do you enjoy?

I have a vinotemp so I am unable to help with regard to the brand. Love mine though.

I think that it requires external temperature regulation (the internals are not HQ).

There are quite a few threads here on the subject.... Keep reading!

Welcome.
A few threads down from yours there is a post about an Avanti 28 that comes out to like 150 with free shipping from Target... And they look pretty good also!

go with the avanti if its still on sale. It has been rumored for a year or 2 that all brands use the same manufacture for the "thermo guts" I own a Vino and a edgestar. But for the money the Avanti for 150 unless you have to have the 100lb wood unit.

Hardcore,

I like the price on the Avanti but I have read many reviews on that cooler and many people said unit died within a year of purchase. How old is your unit and have you heard of any similar reviews?

I'm in the same position as you Blanco. I'm considering the 150 Avanti from Target. I don't want to spend more than 200 at most at this time as it's my first unit.

I've had my unit going strong for over a year now. I bought it used for a brother who used it for three years.

Well--don't y'all laugh too much. I bought 2 igloo 48qt. coolers, installed a digital hygrometer in each one, got some florist foam, added solution, put the cigars in spanish cedar baskets and Hey Now!!! Cheap but very effective. Better than any of the high $$$ humidors I have and they have lots of space. But to each his own. Been using this system for a while now and they work great. Keeping the smokes at 70 to 75% humidity, and sitting in my smoking room at room temp.

I have the same thing but use beads instead of the foam discs. I've had NO issues. I'm building a nice humidor with my girlfriends dad at the moment though.

you should pick up some beads so you don't have the 70-75 swing in humidity... the beads stick to 70%... no fluctuation.

Nothing wrong with a coolerdor, I know lots of guys who store thousands of dollars of smokes in igloos. However your RH is a bit high for most people. Also Florist foam is an antiquated tequnique. Look up heartfeltindustries, and get some beads. YOu'll be rock solid
