I'm sorry.. My dad's a pastor... and that's just WAY too creepy for me... To me there is a certain mystique about them... I hate going in to dark churches

I'd imagine that the amount of work to convert it would make it cost prohibitive.

I've seen it done. The concept is on the lines of an industrial loft, a very open arrangement. A good architect might be in order for this one.

I'd say go for it. You can easily split the main area into a first and second floor. Possibly three I don't know. It's made of brick and looks to have a good roof on it. I'd jump on that if I were you. Plus if it's like a catholic church at all, the pastor has a living space there so you can live in it while the renovations are being done to the rest of the church.

Sounds cool on the face of it, but seems like you'd have to spend a lot turning it into a home. How desirable is the the neighborhood/location? So many property options out there right now, seems like a long shot.

We have done conversions like this in the past. If you can grab it on the cheap and have a good amount of cash to throw down for some remodeling you wont even know it was a church when you are done.

so the bones have possiblity but it needs a lot from 2 roof leaks to graffity from a recent break in "666" was sprayed in multiple locations. The realitor sad she has talked to the owner about these problems but he doesnt want to fix anything. It is a shame he has let it go down hill. Im not going to pursue this prop. To much risk of structral damage from the leaks. It leaks from the roof from the roof to the attic, then the ceiling to the main floor and into the basement. Balls

you're gonna have to pay cash or find a really creative lender to work on this. The zoning would be a bitch too.

I have always wanted to convert an old gothic type church. They always reminded me of castle's  I couldn't think of a cooler house.

From a resale stand point I wouldn't. I am not a Realtor only an appraiser but it might have to be disclosed to every potential buyer of that property that it was once a church.
