The humidor I use is a simple table top unit that holds around 120(ish) cigars and has no mechanical mechanism for maintaining humidity, old fashioned style I guess. We have a separate digital humidity reader and it says its currently sitting around 53-54%. I would like our (it's my brother's and he shares it with me...phidelt1114 if anyone is wondering) humidor to be at 70%. Any thoughts? :cbig:

Cheers to all!

What exactly is the dollar bill test? also we just have little capsule thing we fill with distilled water, pretty basic, and the hygrometer was recently purchased and set up so it's been checked for inaccuracy.

you take a dollar bill and you insert the dollar bill between the base of the humidor and the lid. close the lid and pull the dollar bill out. if it comes out without resistance, there's too much space between the closed lid and the base of the humidor.

about the capsule...swap that out for an electronic humidifier or what the guys on this board sware by, beads.

1. First thing you need to do is a salt test. Its very easy, I did it for the first time last week and found out my digital hygrometer was reading 4-5% low.

2. Check the seal on the lid with a dollar bill. Close the lid on the bill and see if you can pull it out. If it pulls out easily then you don't have a very good seal.

3. Get beads.
