I'm going to a local b&m/cigar bar with a friend tonight. He has some cigar experence, mainly from smoking his dads cigars. He really likes montechristo cubans and I was wondering what would be a good stick for him to buy/smoke at the b&m that would be like that? Money isn't really an issue and the b&m has a good selection, including htf sticks.

Of course when you say they have a good selection of HTF sticks you open a pretty wide door.

Since you said he likes Monte CC's I would recommend the Tatuaje Unicos, as far as I'm concerned I think they are better than a CC Monte No. 2.

Would the strength be the same as a monte cc? For that matter, what is the strength of a monte cc? The dr montes seem to be medium but I don't know if the cc's are too.

more strength and much more flavor, in my opinion!

CCMonte is probably a medium body

In my personal opinion it's not so much strength that is in question here but what you're really looking for is FLAVOR! I would go with tats if you're looking for a more and I hate to say this but cubanesque flavor, cuz in blind tastings it's really hard to differentiate and your palet must be very very well trained. Cabaiguans though I've not had many in some years but the CE had so many suttle nuances that really reminded me of delicate cuban flavors.

The owner of my local swears the Graycliff red is the closest you can get to a monte. That might be worth trying tonight, it is a medium body and a nice smoke IMO

I'd go with the Graycliff Chateau Grand Cru if they have it. If not then probably an Epernay. I don't really consider either to be cubanesque, but to me they are medium with lots of flavor. Very good flavor might I add.

Cabiguam Guapo is cuban esque and the Padron anny 1964 whether maduro or natural is a great stick that will not let you down.

You could always ask the tobacconist... unless they suck at their job...
They don't suck but the ones i've interacted with seem to have a decent but not great knowledge base. Granted, I usually go after 7pm so maybe they don't have their A crew there at those hours but most of the people i've seen working there seem to be clerks that have become knowledgeable and not career tobacconists. Last time I was in there and some random person asked for something that tasted close to a cuban, they pointed them towards the Siglo by Altadis line. Another time a clerk hadn't ever tried a cuban cigar so just pointed to some NC "cuban name" lines and also pointed out a few of the more popular brands(oliva, RP, ...)
