This year the wife and I are getting a nice fat return thanks to buying a house and the baby being born :eyebrow:. Planning on stocking up on some regular cigars and getting a few I've been wanting to try. Nothing big, but man I can't wait.

Anyone else have plans for their Uncle Sam allowance?

Nice to know some of what I had to pay in taxes, thanks to the increase in the AMT for the middle income folks to the highest tax bracket , is going to purchase some fine cigars........

Enjoy them while you can, save some of what you get cause I have a feeling is it going to be a bumpy 2010....

My first pass with the online tax thing says I owe this year. But I am still waiting on some etrade docs, hopefully that will fix it. I am used to getting money back.

Best regards, tony

LOL, the mileage on my wife's car for work and the home office put us in the AMT, which means I have to pay 28% tax no matter what.....mainly because of the mileage.....and together with 4 kids we do not make much over the bottom of than level (middle) sucks, but thats america's reinvestment and recovery act at work.....(that altered the AMT table this year)

gotta stop, do not want this into a debate thread.....pissed yes.....

BUT, glad the OP can get some quality sticks.....

TAX TIP
Research Schedule M, not highly publicized but may yield you another $400...

Mine will go into savings to help with bills till my wife finds a job. She was the production coordinator at a newspaper that decided to let 2/3 of the staff go. She took the opportunity to go back to school to be a teacher. She is now finishing up her student teaching and hopefully she has a job by August. I will be using some of the refund to stimulate (small as it may be) the economy with the purchase of a few good smokes.

had to go back and check the return, found schedule "M" in there.

schedule M?? inquiring minds.
Schedule M is taken care of it you use something like TurboTax. It is the form for the amazing "stimulus" that most people already got through payroll....what amounted to approximately $7 per week back on your paycheck. The form determines what extra you get back based on your income. If you're over a certain income (think I saw $75K), then you don't get the full amount. It decreases as you get higher above the 75K, and I am sure at some point, you have to start paying.

Paid off the remaining of our medical bills and put us closer to paying off our car. I only bought one box of cigars with some of the money.

Who knows every year we get back less and less. Need to start another business or make less. I go to a tax attorney who for 8 months out of the year goes to court for the ones who tried to cheat. So my return is by the book. So less and less every year.
