These things F'n Suck! We have them in DC, on my way to work once I got a ticket for going 31mph.
Some "unknown individual" in the area kept spraying the lenses with roofing tar.

Az highways have those freaking cameras every few miles. Pain in the butt to drive there now. People speed all the way up to the cameras (there are signs posted to tell you where they are) and then slam on their brakes.

if you can find some semi-transparent holigraph stickers they work well against this type of speed trap.

If you saw the original Myth Busters when they tried to beat these before they edited it, it showed that these work, but I assume they got a few calls from a few officals, and they cut that part out.

I've heard talks about them bringing these to California as well. Although the revenue vs upkeep costs are often weigh it out to not being worth it. They've taken out a few red light cameras just because the maintenance costs were more than the money they got from the tickets. If they do, I'm running with no plates again.

Mike, and where would someone find this paint? If they were located up in Canada, that might prove difficult. But good to know!

Here in Tennessee we have them, but I've noticed almost all states from time to time talk about taking them out because a substantial fee goes right back to the company that installs the cameras and monitors the traffic. Its almost not worth it for some smaller states.

If you're speeding, and you get a ticket, why would you have the nerve to get mad about it and blame "the man"? You were speeding, you knew you weren't supposed to...You played the odds and got caught. Pay your fine and get over it. Why be a bitch about it?

The reason you get mad is A-the cameras are not for safety reasons, the "it makes interstates safer" claim has been proven in just as many cases as its been negated. And B-there is absolutely no way you can argue against the fact that it is a money-making ploy. Do research on redlight traffic cameras too, they cause an increase in fenderbenders and big collisions due to motorists attempting to beat the light and not get a ticket or having to slam on their brakes to avoid a ticket.

No offense, but that is one of THE most ridiculous rationalizations I have ever heard. So it's the camera's fault? Dude, we are all responsible for our actions....A camera doesn't "make" us speed....We decide to.

Again, you are responsible for your actions...Period.

You take a chance to beat the light and get caught by a camera or a cop on his bike, guess what? YOU were speeding! Pay your fines and don't whine.

Mostly because fighting the law is kind of an American tradition, just the same as skirting the law is - cameras make that hard to do. Just because it's the law doesn't mean it isn't ridiculous though. Laws are supposed to protect society not generate cash flow for a bloated bureaucracy (or hey, a private company.) That said... breaking the law is breaking the law so you have to pay the price even if you disagree with it.

I don't like the cameras in my city at all because they've caused more headaches and accidents than they've prevented.

Edit:

I'll just throw this out here too. If speed limits were set to the speeds people actually drove there'd be less accidents. People are generally able to drive at a safe speed and generally ignore speed limits any way. If they were concerned about safety they'd implement more realistic speed limits and ticket slow drivers more aggressively.

I'm not going to argue this. Clearly you're mind is made up...until you get a ticket yourself that is.
LOL! I have had more tickets than I can count!

Used to own a '69 Mustang Fastback with dual carbs, headers, glasspacks, et al. Then an Acura Integra after college.

I have had Exhibition of Speed violations, red lights, speeding,...The menu goes on. Probably 1/3 have been from cameras that did their job, and caught me red handed.

Did I enjoy getting a ticket any of those times? Hell no;
but not once did I blame anyone else but the idiot behind the wheel.....who had nobody else to blame.

interesting. the red light cameras i've seen implented are on corners where they need to be. it's amazing how many cars will go through an intersection once the light turns red. and, those with the right-of-way have to wait.... I remember Sacramento in the early 80's. 20 cars would turn on the red....

as for the speeding cameras, i don't have an opinion,,, yet....
