My...friend recently has come across 5 cigars that he haven't tried before. In fact, he hasn't had any cigars from this particular country before. So which of these 5 would you recommend he try first to pop his cherry tomorrow night? He thanks you for your advice in advance ;)

Cohiba Robusto
Monte No. 2
Bolivar Belicoso Fino
Bolivar royal corona
Partagas serie d no.4

Depends on his tolerance for strong cigars. If you think he should start off with something that's not as strong, maybe the BRC or Cohiba.

He can tolerate strong cigars. Some of his favorite cigars currently are oliva v, most of Tats lines, padrons, and similar cigars

Here is the order I would go in:

Boli RC
Monte No.2
Partaga Serie D No.4
Bolivar Belicoso Fino
Cohiba Robusto

If he's a Tat smoker, there's no other way to go besides the PSD4. Most guys prefer them younger and they're loaded with gobs of spicy, leathery tobacco. For a sweeter, or decidedly more "cuban" taste, go with the BBF & BRC. Then follow with the Coro for a showpiece and finish with the Monte2, which is often more bark then bite, when it comes to performance.

I agree with that.

If he's talking current production '08 or later than the PSD4 is the one, or the Monte 2 which has been surprisingly good. I would avoid the BBF, they have sucked for the last 5 yrs or more. I don't think the Cohiba robusto has been much to brag about recently either. If he can get one w/ a bit of age (4 to 6 yrs), that would be good.

Hahahahaha, hey mixmaster15, you and I could smoke out of the same humidor and not cross paths. Too funny. That's the beauty of our hobby / obsession. Tastes are subjective and there is no real right or wrong just what works for each person.

I just noticed you're from Matawan. I grew up in Colts Neck. Left when I was 18.

What year cigars? I firmly believe Cohibas show best with at least 3 years of age. MC#2s can be great fresh, but are wildly inconsistant. Not a fan of BBF, so that leaves the BRC or D4.

If he is an inexperienced smoker and hasn't tried anything to strong than i would go with the monte 2 then the boli. In general though i would go weakest to strongest to find out where my palate lies
