Greetings everyone. My name is Justin and I'm from Hawaii. Currently I am on temp status (recent graduate in Creative Media) as an IT assistant. I also coach high school basketball.
We (the coaching staff) meet up for weekly card games from time to time. It was at one of these, that my interest for cigars perked.
In a whirlwind of excessive expenditure I've spent quite a lot of money recently, trying to develop my taste and preference in cigars. I've been smoking cigars for less than 3 months.
I'm very much into a lot of DPG cigars and found that in my limited experience this general profile matches my palette well.
My first box purchases have arrived and will continue to arrive for a few weeks.
Liga Privada #9 Flying Pigs x 2 - To try, to hold, to trade. With my monetary funds closing in on the "no fly zone", shipping and sampling (I would like to support local B&M's, but will not do so as long as they continue to hit me with 20% mark up on internet sites) dig in a lot. These seemed to review well and seem to be easily traded.
Perdomo Reserve La Trad Cab Serie R x 1 - Had a sampler and swore it was very close in taste to a My Father during my blind tasting. I ordered my gf to divulge the hidden identity and found them for 3.00 a stick. I bought a box.
Cohiba Siglo VI 10 x 1 - Looking to have them sit for a good long time as part of my humidor's future cuban seed.
H Upmann Mag 48's EL x 1 - " "
Some of my favorite cigars that I have smoked are:
San Cristobal (Ashton version) - my current favorite until I re-smoke a My Father.
My Father
La Aroma de Cuba Edicion Especial
DPG blue
Oliva Serie V
Casa Magna (liked 1 out of 5 )
Illusione line of cigars (have yet to find a cg:4 or hl~ Have had the 88, mk and Dark knight)
Perdomo Reserve La Trad Cab Serie R
I really like the construction and burn characteristics of the x000 padrons. They taste pretty good too. I really learned a lot about what a solidly constructed stick should be like after sampling some of these.
Stogs that I could more or less part with were DPG Black cuban classic, Tat Havana VI, La Aroma de Cuba (reg), Nub Connecticut, AF curly head deluxe, misc crapsticks that I had in a sampler (still don't know identities), to name a few.
In closing, I'd like to express my gratitude. I've found a number of useful and well laid out guidelines regarding the hobby. Got to exchange mail and purchase some beads from Dave (thanks for the great support), thankfully found the post about refining your palette (which coming from a cigarette smoker helped - one minute), among other things.
I like that this forum is a little more tech friendly than others that I have lurked on, or briefly attempted to interact with. Thanks for the read.
