Is it that rough of a neighborhood where you guys live? I'm just curious. I've been to and through and even spent some time in some rough neighborhoods but never considered the idea of carrying a gun, even though I couldn't, I live in NJ.
I go in and out of vacant houses all the time with vagrants in them and I wanted my CCW before Obama ends the world as we know it. :)

There's more to it than that. For me, it's partly an exercise of my 2nd Amendment right. Then there's the fact that one never knows when you may need the ability to defend yourself. I'd rather have the option. I live in a very quiet part of a very quiet county. However, every now and then something happens. I've never been affected by it and likely will never be but...who knows?
There's a saying that goes something like, I'd rather carry all my life and never need it than never carry and need it once. And the story about the pioneer provisioning for his trip west. The outfitter asked if he wanted some guns and the pioneer says, 'Do you think I'll need a gun?'. The outfitter replies, 'I don't know, but if you do, you'll need it fast'.

Glock 19, because they work... no matter what... their not pretty or the most accurate but they will always shoot, and Hornady TAP, because its pretty.

Other than that PARA 1911, but its a tad to big and heavy to CC.

I'd love to put a sliding lockable drawer in my truck and I'd just carry my AR. :)

My most common carried pistols in order are

J fram S&W airweight in 32 HR Mag
Keltec PF-9
Glock 19
Keltec P32

I usualy carry Auto's without a round chambered and as you see all of mine have no external safety to worry about.

Keltec PF-9 with hydroshock rounds and I carry it fully loaded 7+1.

as to the why.. It is kinda like a condom.. better to have one with you and not ever need it than to not have one with you and need it.

I carry a Springfield XD 9mm or my NAA .22 if I am dressed lightly. I second the recommendation for the comp-tac holster.

Used to carry a Glock 23. Wasn't a big fan of the .40 caliber round...too "snappy" for my liking. That being said, a Glock is a fine weapon and it does have safeties...just not an external safety.

Holy shit...u still post here?;)

S&W 99 sub compact 40 cal. No safety either...just a dual stage trigger. I don't like having a safety myself.
You taking ur class with Ray Moses out there...he is one crazy dude...but best class to take!
haha, I like to make guest appearances every now and then.

I went out window shopping today and of course it didn't work out that way even though I specifically went without a purchase permit. "Oh well you can just buy it now and we'll hold it til you come back with a permit" bastids.

picked up a Smith and Wesson M & P .40 subComp. Guess I'm going to have to hold off on the AR-15 right now. ah well.

I have Kel Tec 9mm and I'm not too crazy about it. I suggest a Glock. If you get a concealed carrying holster it will also prevent access to the trigger until you remove it from the holster. I agree that when it gets bad, it gets bad quick. Here is my methodology of carrying: If I have a double or triple retention holster, I carry with a round in the tube. If I'm carrying with zero or single retention I carry without one in the tube, thus preventing accidental discharge unless you rack it.
I'm sure you have your own preference in terms of calibur, but I prefer a 9mm or 40 cal. A lot of guys prefer a 45, as did I initially, until a close friend and veteran police officer said it to me like this: "If I shoot you in the foot, it will hurt just as bad whether it's with a 9mm or a 45". And he's right, it's all about shot placement. Learn to shoot accurately and you dont have to carry such a bulky weapon or have so much recoil. That being said, I suggest 9 or a 40.

Good people get shot in "good" places all the time....robbed, mugged, etc....Exercising your right does not harm anyone....

If the need ever arises I would rather be prepared than wish i was...

It's not so much that it's a rough area, it's just being safe. It's like wearing a seatbelt; I don't plan on getting in a wreck, and I'm a very defensive driver which greatly decreases the chances, but I still wear it.

I don't carry concealed any more, but I did when I worked in a county jail because I ran into former inmates often. I had a pretty good rapport with the inmates (because I treated them with a respect, what a concept right?) but you never know. Even then I didnt always carry when I was alone, but always when I was with loved ones. Now I just carry one in my vehicle because I moved out of state and the threat isn't there like it was.

I just got a new Springfield XDM 3.8 9mm kit. I love this gun, I have put 150 rounds through it. This is the first pistol that I have felt like it was an extension of my hand. Very comfy to shoot.

The other pistols that I have had were

Smith & Wesson SW40ve (Glock knock off) Did not like the .40 cal round
Beretta .32 tomcat perfect to conceal but just was not comfortable to shoot
Beretta 92fs 9mm this gun was a jam machine(had one in the military and loved it)
