Ok, a little FYI for the rest of you. I baught some Ashton VSG Tubo's awhile back and have had them stored in my Humi for about a couple months. Something tells me to rotate and inspect so I did. Well thank the good Lord on that one because for some reason something told me to open the tubes and check out the cigars. After opening ALL the tubes I found faint spots of what appeared to be mold spots! I removed the cigars cleaned them and then placed back in the tubo's only this time leaving the top off. Had I not checked them the mold would have taken the cigar completely over and I would not have been able to save. I have had my Humi's going strong for almost 2 years and my temps/humidity are always within proper limits so this threw me for a loop. I'm not sure what happened but I thought I'd better share this incase anybody else has tubo's to check! :peace:

Good save. Thanks for the heads up. I only have one tubo in my humi but I'll give it a look over tonight.

Man I'll tell ya I'm beginning to think that pre getting into your humi and probably pre getting to the shops. Fuentes have got to figure out how there cigars are getting moved around logistically. There is a serious temp and humidity change that is really affecting there cigars. Brings you back to the 2006 Anejos incident. Almost all Anejos with cedar sheaths were almost guaranteed to have mold growing underneath. Something needs to be done at Fuente!

To me it seems that tubes always tend to have problems with mold. I always take the cigars out of the tubes unless it is a glass tube and has a seal. It just is the safer way to go IMO. Good thing you decided to check Tom, that would have been a horrible loss!

Maybe someone can correct me, but aren't mold airborne though? They get caught in the tubos when they are sealed and then they have a nice dark environment to fester in.

I have noticed when I got stuff growing in my cooler the ones not in plastic bags got hit... like the cuban boxes. Everything sealed in its own environment had nothing growing on it.

BUmmer, good thing you caught it in time. Maybe your cigars are psychic and sent you a message about the mold.

I always take the cap off of tubos, that way they aren't sitting in there with extra moisture.

I just ran into this with don carlos GOF tubes. I had 4 in my humi which had 2 sticks with spots of mold on them, one more than the other. The other two were find. They were there almost 2 years. I had a box of VSG Ashton wizards that had got mold spots on them but only on the outside of the bundle in the box and most of the 8 tubes of another don carlos GOF box. They were in a tuppador of mine which I barely open. Though the carlito's were fine. I've since wiped off the mold spots on the cigars and with the Ashton's I put the sticks that had the spots of mold on them in cello and put everything back into the box. I'm thinking of opening up the tubes of GOF and leaving off the cap.

Yea I should have done that but I was so shocked natural instinct kicked in and I just could only think of saving thoes I love!!! :nodlaugh: It wasn't until I was finished I thought about posting. Should it happen again, which I hope not, I will be sure to post pics. I can tell you that the mold spots covered about 10 - 15% of the sticks so I diffenatly caught them in time.
