...enjoyed the aroma of a cigar more than its flavor? I'm smoking a dpg series jj and the aroma is phenominal but the flavor just isn't doin it for me. Thoughts?

I don't think that's unusual at all.. I know people who like the smell of freshly ground coffee but don't like the taste. Same thing.

I LOVE the smell of Opus..I don't know what I like more the smell or flavor, but I would bath in the opus aroma if possible!

Now I do love the DPG Series JJ (Nattie for me), but I agree, many times I've been sitting in my local B&M and ask someone what they are smoking because it smell's so good....and than say to myself, I don't remember it smelling that good when I was smoking it! :dunno:

I would say 75% of the time that happens. My pallet isn't as refined as some people so it's been costly and tough to find a cigar that does both for me.

In a recent review I smoked a Padron Family Reserve 1964 45th Anni Maduro, my father and a friend of mine who both normally detest cigar smoking BOTH commented on how lovely the aroma was.

Now on personal preference...

I am lucky enough to enjoy a highly developed sense of smell, as a result, I often find I get more in terms of the presence of fragrances from food and tobacco I enjoy rather than the flavor profiles they present. However, the flavor profiles of most cigars and foods are more complex than the aromas which they give off, so while I may be more acutely aware of the aroma when smoking or eating, I am often more likely to enjoy the flavors present.

I'm one... When I'm smoking, I will hold the cigar to where the smoke drifts back across me. If I haven't retrohaled yet, the aroma is better than they taste. Although last w/e, I had a RyJ from over there and the taste was equally as good as the aroma. DPG JJ's are a great cigar for the buck!

There are a couple machine made cigars that I thoroughly enjoy the smell of. The taste, not so much.

There are times when I will just open a small desktop I have just to get an aromatic "hit" when I am hankering for a stick and time does not permit.

There is a difference when you are inside the smoke, that is, you are the one smoking it. My fiance will tell me either a cigar smells wonderful or like ass. To me, I've always been a fan of ass, I guess, cause when she says that, these are the ones I am enjoying the most. :stretcher

kinda of like our farts, to us (we've gotten used to it) they don't smell that bad but to others, they clear the room. :eyequiver

Its funny, because I do this too. I find that when diluted in the ambient air, the aroma of a cigar becomes more easily enjoyable.

I shouldn't say that the Series JJ didnt do it for me, but the flavors werent impressive. It was a good stick, but very cedary and dry, a bit of citrus and tangy flavors with a little bit of spice here and there. Just not quite my flavor profile.
