Well, my quest to acquire a wine-a-dor ended today after many weeks of scouring online ads, searching fleabay and craigslist. I've been fretting over rising temps in my humidors and coolidors, and I knew it was only going to get worse!

Last nite I stumbled across a craigslist ad for a 28 Bottle Vinotemp ($125.00 or best offer...) and the seller was just a few miles away. I shot the seller an email and kept my fingers crossed all day until she finally replied late this afternoon. "It's still here if you want to come see it," she said.

So I made the nervous trip over there, fully expecting to be disappointed by a misleading description or a faulty unit. Much to my surprise, the hardly used Vinotemp was in excellent shape and it quickly cooled down within just a few minutes of being plugged in. I couldn't pay her fast enough and get baby out to my truck!

So, I brought it in, gave a it a quick once over with a damp towel and commenced to cooling off my cigars.

I'll back-track and set it up properly; Spanish cedar trays, Heartfelt beads, ETC and such, but for now, I just put two of my humis inside, loaded it with a few "special" boxes, transferred some cigars to empty boxes and slipped about 1/4 lb of beads in a plastic container along with a few humi pillows. My largest humi wouldn't fit, so I took out the tray and slipped it into the top shelf. She's purring fine at 69% RH and 67 degrees!

So, now I'm open for advice! I've left my humidification devices in the humis and the various boxes are slightly open. I'll keep a close eye on the vitals and watch for any major fluctuations. I guess getting the proper ratio of beads is the first order, then I'll experiment with shallow cigar boxes or open containers while I figure out something on the trays.

I'm just stoked at finally getting the major component in hand!

That's awesome. I've been strongly considering buying a vinotemp or some such piece of equipment, as I'm finally getting to the point where I want to buy full boxes, not just singles, and my 75ct and 20ct humis are just not cutting it.

i would definitely invest in a vino temp if my basement didn't keep the temperature so perfect year round...glad you scored a good deal, and good luck getting her all set up.

It looks really cramped in there, but there are several gaps and plenty of flow-thru for circulation. The humi on top of the Vino is still 3/4 full; I guess I can still add a small flat box or two and bag up some singles.

The RH rose quite a bit overnight. The hygro in the upper right hasn't stabilized yet; I put it in right before the photo, although the RH read the same after a few minutes. I still have about 1/4 lb. of dry beads I can add to tweak the levels.

Happy so far!

You have a ton of space left in there! Good luck bro! Check onto getting some trays and getting rid of the humi's inside.

* Thanks Brian!

** That's the plan Justin - I think I saved enough over buying "new" that I can invest in some custom trays. Gettin' some good ideas already!

Another thing you may want to keep in mind, if you plug the drain hole you WILL get moisture on the floor of the unit, always keep the bottom shelf in place so nothing on the floor can get ruined. Throw a bag of beads against the back wall and that should sop up the small amount of water.

Good idea Bro! It's un-plugged for now, but I went ahead a slipped a couple of plastic dowels into the channels under the bottom humi to keep it off the floor. I'm picking up a couple of mesh bags at the pet store today so I can bag up the rest of beads and then the ones I'm ordering today. I'll toss that bag against the back. Thanks!

Thanks and Yes, Larry! I had my Sears card out Sunday night and almost pulled the trigger on a New Air unit they sell. Lucky for me, I didn't agree with the $39 shipping charge and they wouldn't let me pick that particular unit up at the nearest store!

Ordered my Ranco ETC-Digital Temperature Controller tonight.

The Vinotemp has been sitting steady at 66, the front mounted digital control only goes up to 67 and it cycles on and off regularly. I'd like to know that I can bump the ETC up to 70 and leave it.

Very nice .
My EdgeStar 28 really stabilized after I put the 2nd lb of beads inside.

Yeah - they're the next order of business. I ordered 3 of the basic cedar trays online last night (until some of the mastercrafters here get caught up) and I'll tweak 'em to fit. The ETC has already shipped and now I'm off to Heartfelt to look into the beads!
