The original My Father's would have to be my choice.
Agreed, I feel as though most cubans (not all) lost what they used to have back in the day. There are alot of sticks out there that are way better in my opinion. Not sure what it is, could be the soil, could be anything; i just believe that its something.I'd rather have a Forbidden X than a Cohiba.
I'd rather have a Tatuaje SW Maduro than a Monte Cristo.
I'd rather have a Tat Black than a Partagas.
Yes the ISOM's have a unique flavor - some aspects can be reproduced elsewhere, but IMHO the quality of cigars & tobacco coming out of DR & Nica are far superior to that which is coming out of the Dictatorship of Cuba.
Also:
I have never had half of a box of NC plugged.
I have never found string in an NC cigar either.
Somebody here said once that Pete modeled most of the brown labels after specific Cubans. Not sure if that's true, but if so maybe that similarity is intentional!I smoked a RyJ Havana Cazadore and a few days later smoked a Tat Havana Cazadore and they were strikingly almost the same cigar.
x2!!!
Not gonna argue about "better..." but "different," to be sure!
To me, it's like trying to find a wine that tastes as close as you can to rum... both alcohol, yes... and you MIGHT find a really oak-ie wine and taste some of the same background notes as a barrel-aged rum...... but the big forward flavors are still VERY different.
... and you can still like wine over rum... rum over wine... and/or like both but paired with different things and at different occasions.
Too far with the analogy?
Cheers!
Agreed. Its funny. I have been buying up NC and really enjoying them. Some excellent cigars out there right now from Pete, E Carillo, Pepin, Viaje etc. I kinda backed off from the CC's. A few weeks ago picked up six boxes. I can't believ what I have been missing. A completly differnt smoke that is just in a different class. Cohibas, Partagas, HDM all incredible sticks that are far and above what I had been smoking. I still love my Tatuajes but when I want a truly great cigar I just have to go back to the island.
