So I'm heading to Van Island in a month, and I want to buy some cubans while I'm there. I've only bought i cigar once in Canada (last year) at a little smoke shop in Comox (I usually bring the 50 max across the border on my way up).

I'm wondering where I should by my sticks. Do they sell them at the duty free shops? I'll be at the border, straight to tsawwassen terminal to nanaimo. Then from there, I'll be driving up to Black creek between comox and campbell river. Any suggestions? Would i need to go to Victoria for smokes? Thanks.

Doc, there is a great place in Victoria, but for the life of me I cannot remember the name of it right now. It on Douglas or Government down near the harbor, between Murchee's Coffee and Munro's Books, if I recall correctly. I have not been there for a few years, but their stock has always been excellent. However, my recollection is that they do not sell by the box, only singles. They have one of the famous "marble pillar" gas lamps with two flames, one for cigar smokers and one for pipe smokers. The guys know their stuff though.

Be prepared for serious sticker shock. Canadian taxes are outrageous, and even more so in B.C.

I appreciate the offer, but I'll only be up for a week and a half this year (new job). My girl has never been, and we'll probably spend all of our time on the island. If I'm ever up for more than that in the future, I'll defiantly let you know so we can go hob-knob around downtown van. Thanks bro, and sorry.

I've only been to a small shop in Sidney near the pier called J. Burke & Sons. Their selection is quite small and of course expensive.

Regards,
Randy
