That's just wrong. BP has spent $17M in advertising trying to mitigate the impact this is having on its market cap and sends FL $25M to help them promote how safe and clean the beaches are, but the org that is collecting and cleaning all of these birds has to solicit private donations for funding??????

it's almost like everyone is standing around pointing their fingers at each other and saying "why aren't you doing something?".
if the government wants to run the show THEN GET ON WITH IT. send bp the bill. there is already a $1billion fund set aside for clean up. GET THE F STARTED! you blame bush for katrina and you blame obama for the oil spill, but it's the f'ing bureaucrats that slowly dawdle through layers and layers of worthless middle managers so they can collect a check.

I wonder if this would take as long if it was in BP's home country?
It would take longer--Great Britain is basically socialist, meaning they have even MORE bureaucracy that us.

After the record profits the oil companies have made the last few years, you'd think they'd have something that would work by now for spills. You'd also think that a so-called "Environmentalist" administration would jump on this asap, rather than hardly commenting for two weeks and then saying "Yes, it's a tragedy and it will be cleaned up" but then doing nothing at all.

I haven't been watching the news the last few weeks so I'm kind of out of the loop ... but can someone tell me why they can't just Napalm the spill and burn it out??

there was talk of doing a burn, but the gov't nixed the idea. there was also an idea of putting a bomb and the well and blowing it up. for some reason that didn't fly either!!

I don't get why burning a spill when it's on the water is a bad plan. Sure it will kill some fish ... but a lot more will die as the spill spreads.

Sad, just sad. BP has failed on this and so has our government. I am for private businesses taking responsability for what they have done and cleaning up thier own mess but this has gone beyond that. If our government is not here to help prevent or mitigate an enviromental disaster like this then what the hell are they here for? Passing more finds for unempleoyment? Offering buyouts to politicians they dont want to run? Going to fundraisers for other politicians? The government is failing us and failing these poor animals that are dying. Absolutly frustrating! Stop f**king around and get out there and start cleaning up and do what needs to be done, we can worry about who will pay AFTER!

Those pictures are just tragic. It will be many years before the full scope of this tragedy is known. But it's great that BP just spent the $$$ to release a series of PR ads with that smug bastard saying he's sorry and that BP will do everything they can to clean-up this mess. Words mean nothing - where is the action? Forget the PR spin and put the money in the hands of the locals that know what they have to do to preserve their future before it's too late.
