The Senate also voted 21-17 to bar municipal health departments and boards of public health from “unreasonably” prohibiting the operation of a cigar bar.
The Republican amendment came in response to Boston public health officials last year giving cigar bars 10 years before losing their licenses to operate. “Let the free market work,” said Sen. Richard Tisei (R-Wakefield). “If patrons want to go there and smoke a cigar, God bless them without the nanny state telling them what to do.”
