From a NY B&M Owner. If Patterson and the NY Senate have their way, this IMHO will be the first of many to exit the state. What they did/do for the troops is world class. They have sent care packages to my sons in Afghanistan and Iraq!
Damned shame.
Dear Friends - In 1996 I had a vision to open a premium neighborhood cigar store where those who shared my love of fine tobacco would have the opportunity to purchase their favorite cigars, lovingly kept in their perfect environment. Within 2 years I outgrew my humble shop, and I opened a spacious lounge, where you were welcome to unwind in a comfortable and friendly setting. For fourteen years you have graciously helped Uptown Cigar Company become not only a local favorite, but a widely known and respected purveyor of the finest premium cigars and tobaccos. We have made friends and customers across the globe, including our bravest military personnel.
Unfortunately, constant tobacco legislation from my state of New York has hampered our ability to remain competitive. In 1996 the OTP tax was 20%. It increased to 37% and is now 46%. Scandalously the Governors budget targets this small family industry, and the tax now proposed is revised to 90%. This is likely to pass. Sadly, this has made it impossible to operate a bricks and mortar store within NY State.
Rather than close, with the help of Israel, (AKA Uptown Isy) my manager, we will be relocating our operation to Florida. So, on June 30th, we will shut our doors here in Kingston. However, as of July 1st we will launch our UPDATED state of the art, fully functional website and there will be a seamless transition. At our new facility we will offer a much broader selection of your favorite smokes at an even better price! All our orders will ship promptly via USPS priority mail to ensure quick delivery and of course the cigars will be arriving at the same high level of quality as you have come to expect from Uptown Cigar Company
On behalf of all the wonderful staff I have had the pleasure to work with over these 14 years, I thank you for your past patronage, and I look forward our on-going relationship for many years to come.
Most Sincerely,
Michelle Tuchman
