Hey all new here been smoking for a few months and love cigars and decided to get a humidor. I did not get a huge one, I got a 75-100 desktop from cheaphumidors

I seem to have no luck with hygrometers though.

The analog that it came believe it or not seems to have the best results, it s only -5 % off after the salt test. I bought two digital from walmrt and one is 10% off, the other is 15% off.

I started Thursday night, seasoning my humidor, and today it has been reading 68 RH on the analog which I Know is really 73, and 65 on the digital which I know is 75 RH. Well i think that is right if these things work at all.

I have about 1/2 pound of 65% heartfelt beads ready to go, loose, I figured I would use a really small tupperware container to hold them, not sure if that is the best thing but hoping that will work.

My question is should I take out the distilled water I have been using to season it and just put in the beads now and wait a few days before putting cigars in? should i put the beads in now and still keep the distilled water in. Or leave beads out for a few more days?

Thanks for any advice in advance

one quick question if you use pantyhose for the beads do you put the pantyhose directly on the wood? Or do you still place that in another container?

If you have a divider it may suit you to make a space just for your beads and put the pantyhose there to stay separate from the cigars. I have a wine cooler and place the hose right on the shelves.

Got it!

One last question..should I split how my beads are layed out in the humidor?

Like I said it not a huge humidor it holds 75-100, and I figured out that it is 816 square inches

For example should I put all the beads in the pantyhose and lay it on the bottom of the humidor? or should I split it and put one bag on bottom and one on the tray that my humidor came with?

This is the humidor I got

That's up to you. I don't think that area is big enough that you will have to have multiple bags. Start with one bag and move the hygrometer around (letting it sit for at least 6 hours) to make sure it is stable throughout the humidor

Also get an adjustable digital hygrometer from a local tobacconist....not from Wal-Mart.

I'd check on the humidor in 2 days. Tomorrow is too soon. Also, how long did you leave the meters in to calibrate? I generally let them sit for 3 days while the humidor soaks up humidity in the seasoning process.
