Anyone here do any macro photography?

I just got a new Canon T2i and was going to try my hand at macro. I have looked at different forums, ideas etc and found out that macro is not really cheap lol.

Trying to do it cheap as possible, I was looking at extension tubes. Right now I have 2 lenses, a 18-55mm kit lens and 55-250mm lens. Canon tubes are out of my budget, Kenko tubes sound the best but are still really expensive and the last option is Opteka tubes (seem to be the best value).

Any suggestions?

Also, on the other end of the spectrum here, I also enjoy checking out the moon etc. What would I need to get some halfway decent moon pics with my current lenses? Teleconverters? (again, very expensive)

Suggestions?

How about some cheap lens suggestions also....

If anyone has any used gear that they are looking to dump that may help me out here let me know! I just don't want to spend a fortune on a new hobby to find out I don't like it as much as I thought lol.

i know that a 60 mm 2.8 would be great. Sigma is a great quality brand. Not too experienced on this either but id say a 60 mm would be cool for you to look at.

Good Luck!

I know I'm gonna have to visit this thread again, when my budget permits! I love taking photos w/ my Canon Rebel, but I'm short in the accessories department.

Not sure if you have checked out this forum but it has loads of info for Canon users
Yeah, I have been doing a lot of reading there. I was hoping someone might do a little macro here. Maybe a smokes for accessory trade? lol

First attempt at macro today, t2i w/ 55mm kit lens held up to the camera backwards, PITA but the shot ended up being pretty nice.

cool shot, the spider looks like its not even touching the blade of grass (assuming that's grass)
Thanks, this was more reason for me to get a dedicated macro lens or at the very least some kenko tubes.. Holding a lens backwards, while slightly moving back and forth for focus and everything else you gotta do, I was surprised I even came out with something halfway decent.

Thats a rough way to shoot a macro shot :) (and a great photo!)

Used to do it all the time when I was shooting for newspapers...Cool look, but your DOF is almost nothing when shooting that way...

This is almost as hard as the pringles can method which was my first attempts. I wholeheartedly recommend saving the money if you start to pursue macro for the canon 100mm macro. You will thank yourself everyday for not picking up a 50mm. So many insects, bugs, and critters are scared away from an approaching lens that the extra distance helps indefinitely.
