Well picked up my DES cigars yesterday and smoked one this morning. This is not a review just my own opinion.

Normally I let them rest for a week or two. But with all the hype, I had to break the trend.

Now it was the first one and the next 2 will be smoked over the next 2 months, so I will not cast to harsh a judgement.

Now I may PO some folks off (sorry) but again this is just my first one and first impression. Lets just say I would feel bad about bombing anyone with these at this point. Even to my worst enemy.

I am hoping the next one will be in line with what I am hearing about them.

No worries! Different smokes for different smokes as they say! It is actually good to hear this...when I hear a lot of greats with no harsh feedback...it makes me wonder at times! Thanks for your honest review.
P.S...anything you would compare it too? thanks! nick

Nick, of course each to their own like you said, but to compare I would say a couple Gurkha's, Bucaroo (sp) and maybe a gas station cigar. But again will hold off final judgement till I try a couple others later on.

I wouldn't worry about pissing anyone off. That's the beauty of cigars. One persons dog rocket is another persons 95 point cigar. Everyone is different. I enjoy hearing everyones opinions good or bad. I would love to hear your full review on it. It's very interesting to me because i loved this cigar.

To try and answer what I did not care for was, well first the construction and appearence was very good. The flavor and complexity was just not there, flat/bland kind of. I never gave up and did smoke it down to the last inch or so, nothing ever showed up.

Again I have had one or 2 bad cigars in a box and the others were terrific.

I'm so tempted to throw up an ISO for a handful of these. But I'd hate if I liked them better than the Exclusivo's that I do have...and then couldn't get the required box to satisfy my obsession... :nodlaugh:

Funny I got the Exlusivo's also but have not tried one yet. I am going to let them rest a couple weeks before I do.

I always find these posts intriguing. I find it fascinating that ones tastes can differ so greatly. I would say this DES release is one of the best cigars I've had all year and I smoke quite a few. It seems that is the consensus on a few sites. So to hear the complete opposite baffles me. I surmise that most of the severe contrasts in opinion come between seasoned smokers and those that are new or newer to cigars. (Speaking in generalities of course) When I first started I couldn't detect the subtle nuances found in some of the more complex cigars. Of course this may be chalked up to the occasional dud. Time will tell.

You are not going to PO anybody, but I am shocked by your comments...the first DES I had ROTT was wonderful (albeit with a different profile then I have tasted before)...I have a feeling you will be pleasantly surprised when you try another one :)

Had one that I picked up in a pass that I was really excited about due to all of the hype. "Good" cigar...but I really didn't think it was worth all the hype it received.

It's so nice to be on a site where differing opinions don't turn into a pissing contest or flame war. Some people are into power, others couldn't care less or notice complexity. For others, they are more open to complexity or different flavor profiles, like the Illusione, etc.

Well I have smoked another DES yesterday and found the other side of the spectrum from the first. Just say I'am glad now that I have a few put away to enjoy later on.

Not the first time I tried one and did not enjoy it and then the next one was right on.
