:tongueout Not the kind you smoke either LOL!!

As you know I've purchased a Rock Island Compact tactical and love it. So I decided to get the 5'' 1911A1 as well. I've always wanted a 1911A1 as they were the handgun that the military used in WWI up until the mid 80's. In fact the 1911 is the longest issued gun in US military history.:bangbang:

The one I'm purchasing is used, but is in like new condition 98-99% and I got it for a great price.

Here is a review for those interested

Watch yourself, brother. 1911s are kind of alot like crack. Today it's a second Rock Island, tomorrow you're selling yourself on the corner just to get one step closer to that Wilson Combat.

Pa,
That's a nice little gun, especially for the price. My brother in law wants a 1911 I'll have to show him this one .

Rock Islands are great 1911 for the price and from what I heard. Their customer service is top notch as well. If anyone is looking for a budget 1911 Rock Islands would be recomendation.

I love :starrylov my Springfield 1911 A1. Its the best all around handgun I own. I put the crimson trace grips on it and find it to be my go to carrier., unless I'm out with the wife dressed up then its my beretta compact .40.

Update:

Just in case you didn't know I won this pistol on a gun auction site. It arrived at my local gun store on Wednesday. But I wasn't able to pick it up until today. As don't get off of work in time to pick it up.

When he opened the box and the foam case the first thing I noticed is that it looked almost brand new. Even the guy at the store mentioned that. It had some very light holster wear on the edges. But other than that. It looked like new. I don't think it was ever taken down and cleaned as the inside of the barrel looked a little dirty. But I doubt it ever had more than a box of 50 rounds through it. I dry fired it and the trigger is not bad. Not as nice as my STI or Dan Wesson, but acceptable. I also noticed that it didn't come with the original ACT magazine? It had an unmarked 7 rd magazine. I asked the guy at the shop as to what brand of Mag it had? And he said it was a Chip McCormic Mag. I also purchased a 8rd Mec Gar Mag for it, as they are very similiar to the ACT mag's. I wouldn't be suprised if they are made at the same factory under different names. I like to make an additional purchase from the store when I do a tansfer as he dosen't charge that much and I'm sure he would prefer that I purchase the gun from his store. But he only had new Rock's and the model I purchased was $100 more at his shop brand new. Upon looking through the box a little more I found the original warranty card as well. Will have to fill it out and turn it in as I hear RIA has great customer service. Hopefully I'll never need to use it, but you never know.

Overall I think I'm going to be very happy with the gun.

Can't wait to take it to the range and see how it performs.:bangbang:

Will let you know when I do.

Update:

Took my rock to the range today to see how it would perform. And I'm more than pleased with it's accuracy. The very first shot, I put in the Bullseye!! I couldn't believe it!! Is that a good omen or what. I was able to keep 70% of my shots within the 7 ring on the first couple of magazines, And after getting a little more comfortable I was able to keep all shots fired in the 7 ring area. The 7 ring to the bulls eye area was full of holes. I fired a good 80 rounds of ammo through it. Blazer 230gr FMJ brass, regular Blazer 230gr FMJ as well as some 230gr Sellier & Bellot FMJ. It fed them all without any problems. Those old skool sights took some adjusting as I've never fired a gun with those style of sights. But it wasn't too big of an issue. Overall I'm more than happy with this purchase and look forward to putting a few hundred more rounds of FMJ down it before I see how it likes hollow points.

Also I didn't get any of that bitchin handbite that the reviewer got either:smile:

I have never been bit by a 1911, but put a .25 in my hands and I will need stitches before the 3rd mag has been shot.
I have an old Thompson Auto Ordnance that has been extensively reworked.I have probably put more money in reworking that piece than a new "high dollar" custom job would have been... but I have owned and shot it for about 30 or so years and we kind of understand each other. I only shoot home loads thru it because I know exactly where they are gonna go. I have been using the same recipe for years and it works for me.

glad to see you getting a new toy. i have to clariy your statement on the longest issued gun. do you mean standard or to speical forces. the reason i ask is because the Browning 50cal machine gun was first issued at the end of ww1 and is still in use today by a large majoty of the forces. the 1911 is only being used by less then one pecent. Both I am not need to reminde some people were designed by John Moses Browning.

I've read in many gun mags that the M1911 has been the longest issued gun in American military history.

Here is a good read about the M1911 from Masad Ayoob and he states it in this article as well.
