I will be having knee surgery arthroscopic on 8/12/10. I know that it is a very common procedure, but I am scared of going under anesthesia. I have performed surgery on people for over 20 years but damn it this is my knee we are talking about. Any way just needed to vent. Sorry about being a big baby.:sadcry:

I've had several procedures with Versed. Three endos, one knee scope, a heart cath and a minor wrist surgery. It's amazing stuff. Nothing to worry about unlike some of the heavier drugs they use for other procedures.

I hate coming out of it. Just plain sucks. Last one was for my knee. Reconstructed my ACL. Works like a champ now.

I've had a couple of surgeries and while it takes a little while to get back on your feet, the anesthesia is fine.

Is regional anesthesia not an option, such as a block? If not, general anesthesia is safe with minimal risks - the anesthesiologist will go over it with you very well beforehand to make sure you're a good candidate.

Truly is a wonderful deep sleep. The Versed drunk right beforehand is quite fun....

I had my knee done with a local. Guy had never done it before but I don't do opiates and he agreed to give it a shot. Very interesting experience. 1998 Journal I believe. We were in Grand Rapids, MI.

make sure your wife brings a camcorder for the recovery room. trust me.
X2

A few years back my wife had a stent implanted - she also had a general. After the procedure I visited with her in a recovery area prior to them moving her to a regular room. To this day - she has no memory of my visit and our conversation in the recovery room. BTW - she seemed perfectly normal.

Good Luck-

I've had knee surgery twice. The first was to reattach some ligaments and smooth out the cartilage (I'd had 3 knee dislocations in about a year and a half). I had wanted to just do a regional so I could watch (yeah I'm sick like that), but man was that general stuff nice . Here one minute, asleep the next. I did spend the night in the hospital after the first surgery and was apparently visited by friends and family. I have a few hazy memories of some people visiting . The only thing I didn't like was that they ran a bunch of fluids through me and because of the general I physically couldn't take a piss. It was like when you've been out drinking all night and you really, really, really have to go only I couldn't. The nurse threatened to put in a catheder (oh HELL no) and I locked myself in the bathroom until I went . Went home the next day and then left for drum major camp in Indiana for a week. The second surgery was in and out. Took a bone chip the size of a dime out of my knee, ouch!

Anyway, best wishes for a speedy recovery and I hope they give you the good drugs . They make being on crutches so much fun .

Piece of cake Doc!...,I was always nervous before surgery so I talked the doctor & nurses heads off until they put me under matter fact I dont even remember what I said prior. I guess they were thinkging lets hurry and shut this guy up. I had total of 3 surgeries nothing real serious mainly sinus related, deviated septum, tonsillectomy....and had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled at once. All of them I had to be put to sleep, as said by a few other brothas coming out of it isn't the best of experiences. I guess its like falling to sleep and having someone smack you around to wake you up 15min later!
