I just booked our hotel in the French Quarter in New Orleans for our honeymoon. Ive never "been" to NO, just driven through in the truck. I can not WAIT to go. We were going to go to Savannah, but changed our minds today and booked NO. Any suggestions for places to go and things to do?:inlove::smokingbo

Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans
And miss it each night and day
I know I'm not wrong this feeling's gettin' stronger
The longer, I stay away
Miss them moss covered vines the tall sugar pines
Where mockin' birds used to sing
And I'd like to see that lazy Mississippi hurryin' into spring

The moonlight on the bayou a creole tune that fills the air
I dream about magnolias in bloom and I'm wishin' I was there

second on bro ish's list. there are practically NO bad restaurants in n.o. and just wondering through the quarter and listening to all the different kinds of music is fantastic. just be careful.

Johnny's po-boys for lunch is staple for me. http://www.johnnyspoboy.com/

Acme Oyster House...http://www.acmeoyster.com/ Now's not the best time of the year for oysters (months should have an r in them for good oysters). I bet this will be a bust since the oil spill as well...but if they are open and serving, it's worth a try.

Aunt Sally's Praline factory is fun. They are one of the top praline places in the quarter. http://www.auntsallys.com/

Also, if you can find a sno-ball stand...do it. It will definitely help with the summer heat....either that or a 190 octane daiquiri...

Have a great time!

i love Louis Armstrong singin' that tune. :)

i miss New Orleans, and i was only ever there for 2 days!
i moved down to L.A. from Montreal about 7 years ago. a couple of friends and i drove down together in a Uhaul. on the way down, we hit a few places (parents' house, friends' houses, etc.) and decided to stop in NO for a night. we got there in the early afternoon, booked the hotel, took in some of the scenery, and then started wandering around Bourbon St and thereabouts. we had an amazing time drinking good beer and eating amazing food (we had Jambalaya for dinner. it was delicious, but i forgot where we had it).

by the time midnight rolled around we'd met lots of colorful and interesting characters, gone to three gentlemen's clubs, and had many wonderful drinks on the street. on our way to getting a cab back to the hotel, one of my friends was stopped in the street by a tall black prostitute. we weren't sure if it was a man or a woman. he escaped after s/he groped his man parts.

i'm sure your honeymoon will go quite differently (at least i hope it does), but you will have a great time! everyone we met and talked to there was very friendly and full of character. the streets and architecture were themselves full of this same character. the whole city seemed to smile at us.

to me, it's a magical city... and i wasn't even there for more than 36 hours!
it comes in at a close second behind Montreal on my list of the greatest and most amazing cities.

enjoy!
