I agree with Larry. If it is coming from a B&M, It's got to have cello on it b/c of all the potential hands and noses touching it. If it came in a full, unopened box, though, I wouldn't really care if it didn't have cello on it.
That's the same whether there's cello or not, so that's irrelevant.

Larry, your cigars are hand made and the tobacco is touched and handled by hundreds of hands before it ever goes in the box. I would think personal hygiene in the cigar producing countries is not as prevalent as it is in the US. So to say the 1st 100 hands are ok , but not the last 15, just seems silly.
I do not like cello, but it does offer protection. But when I have to take all the cello off for aging, the cigars now rattle in the box, because the box was made to fit the extra cello.
I've been at my B&M and seen some boxes of tats and Cabi's or any other brand where there are only 4 or 5 sticks left in the box. Those "left overs" were severely cracked most of the time.
I highly doubt, no I KNOW, most of those sticks did not come like that from the factory. They got cracked by people handling them at the B & M. So if I were a B & M I would be asking all brands to carry cello, because think about how hard it is for that B & M to sell those last 4 or 5 sticks

Working at a B&M I can tell you more often than not sticks come in that way, I have opened enough boxes there to know this for a fact. A few brands that don't cello cigars will put some small foam in the box to help from being knocked around(such as Cain), but Tatuaje(brown labels) and a few others don't and thus results in cracked feet from sliding around the boxes during weeks of shipping. I pulled at least 2 or 3 from the two new "7th" boxes the other day with damaged feet and/or wrappers. Grab a sealed box of brown labels and lightly shake it and you can clearly hear the cigars shifting about. I am not saying that the damage is not caused by customer handling as well as I have seen a guy drop a Padron '26 and bust it open, then put it right back in the box as I waited on him. Just saying I see a lot more damaged cigars coming in the shop than I do getting damage once they are in the shop.
If you were in a shop buying sticks wouldn't you leave the cracked one in the box and grab another? This is why when you see a couple left in a box occasionally they are usually the ones in the worst shape. We have a big bag of cigars that is full mostly of damaged cigars straight out of a new box.

hmm I did not realize that Craig... as I don't work at a B&M I just assumed. Anyhow... all the more reason to put the cello on. I imagine you have to discount those cracked sticks to sell them no? :dunno:
oh yeah and this thread is definitely a rehash... but what did everyone expect? cello vs. no cello is like the Edward vs. Jacob of the cigar world :hysterica
Ohh man. Some sort of severe punishment is deserved for dropping a Twilight reference. And a slightly less severe form of punishment is deserved for me knowing it.
This reminds me of the twist off cap debate with wine. I prefer a cork because of the tradition and aesthetics but can understand why a twist off will keep a better seal. Still it's funny seeing a $60 bottle of Cakebread with a twist off. As far as cigars, I take the cello off before putting them in trays. If I order a box, I'll remove all the cellos and put them back in the box. As far as non-cellos at the b&m, I look but don't touch unless I'm buying.
well i bought a box of the Havana churchills yearago and they were cellophaned, today i got a box of the Cojonu!! 2009 and they were not in a cellophane!but they have some sponge near the foots and on the lift side of the box and that was pretty good to protect them
