So, last night I sit down and light up a Tat...f*ckin hole in the side. Call Jadawin in a fierce panic. After instructions on how to handle situation I run to my humidor and run through an extensive inspection. Ended up throwing away a few sticks from that humi. Quarantined the others. I know a lot of guys would say "F It" and smoke em but I can't mentally handle the thought of a bug in my mouth. I HATE BUGS. Then I think to myself..."aw snap, I better check my other humi just to make sure." Yep. Cigars with holes. Quarantined the rest. Now going through the proper steps to ensure it doesn't happen again and the cigars I have are still smokable.

Anyone have any beetle stories?

Please feel free to throw me a pity party.

Do you remember what temperature your hygrometer was reading when you checked the humidors?

Nope, never had an issue. I even went 2 years in the TX heat where it would stay 80-84 in my desktop with 65rh with never an issue. the only time I saw a hole was on some cigars I got from another BOTL and it was just one stick, I kept the others aside and froze that one, smoked it after going throught the thawing out process.

Yup, had beetles, but my fault in storage. I kept them at the right humidity, but in a room that was steady at 75 degrees. Lesson learned. I now freeze everything for several days before introducing them to the rest of the population. If I were you, I would take your cigars, double wrap them in freezer bags, place them in the fridge for a day, in the freezer for 3, and back in the fridge a day. After this process, let them rest in your humi for a couple weeks before smoking. Shouldn't have any more issues if you freeze them when you get them. Just make sure you are keeping your humi below 70 degrees. Plenty of information out there on the science and process behind freezing if you want more info. You probably know all this already, so I will stop rambling, good luck.

1 smoke I got in a bomb, had bettle dust, and a hole, but the cello had no Holes. I still froze my stash, and got a wine cooler for storage. never seen one since.

Microwave?? I'm thinking this is wrong, wouldn't the heat destroy the cells of the leaf?

"There is hope; you can save your cigars even if they have been attacked by the relentless cigar beetle. The best method is to use your microwave as a way to fight back and kill the lingering larvae. Before you start killing off larvae, throw out the cigars that have been destroyed; the remaining cigars can still be saved. Place the remaining cigars in the microwave, all together for the best results, and cook for around three minutes. After they have been heated up, move them immediately to the freezer and leave them there for 24 hours. After 24 hours, remove them from the freezer and allow them to thaw completely at room temperature. Once thawed, place them in a humidor. Research has shown this method works to remove any remaining beetles from your collection. When you are ready to smoke, open your humidor and look closely at each individual cigar. If there is no further evidence of infestation, it is safe to light one up."

Wouldn't you like to know?
I had beeltes when my cigars hit 75 for a week. They were only in 3 cigars all from the same boxes. Guapos Junior. I ended up only having to freeze about 300 sticks to feel comfortable. But now store everything at 65 just to be safe and not have to worry. I am just glad I didn't have to freeze em all.

ok that's funny. Nah buddy saw the gardener cut down his plant in the back yard so we ran out and grabbed it from the pile. Trying to get it ready to burn we used the micro- and ended up wit a total loss, and a headache.

Thanks for the compassion and suggestions guys. I don't know the exact temp of the humi but I keep it at about 68%...or just below 70. I keep my humis on my dresser in our bedroom and I know it doesnt get too hot in there. I'm gonna toss the rest in the freezer tonight. My sister is driving into Chicago from our parents house so my dad gave her a humi to loan me until I figure out what to do with mine.

Oh, I have a box of Alec Bradley's supposedly being delivered today. Bad side is its 90+ in Chicago and they will be sitting on my front porch all day. I'm soooo paranoid now. Would you guys suggest tossing them in the fridge then freezer too...just to be safe?

You can't just toss them in. Check the other thread about the proper way to do this.

Yup...Just to be safe, I put EVERYTHING in the freezer now before introducing them to the rest of the population. Too much money at stake.

I had a bug in my mouth once. Luckely i freeze the cigars of manufactures that don't freeze them before shipping, so it was a dead one. The cigar in question didn't have any holes on the outside though.
