So I went to a thrift shop today and found a small box for $3 that I want to use as a small humidor in my home bar. I am not sure what it is made of but they also had a cigar box that I got to rob some spanish cedar from. What would you use to seal the inside of the box with? I was thinking maybe a clear laquer or Poly?

I also got the Xikar cutter in the picture for $6 The photo is kinda bad, but the box looks pretty nice and is decently built. I only want it to hold maybe 5 to 10 cigars, just to add to the bar (it is a western themed bar) without having my larger humidor down there taking up space.

Score on the cutter, that one goes for $60+

I would change the box 1 bit. use it as a dry box. If people are coming over to hang out, stock it up, when they leave, put your smokes back in the real humi.

I didn't even think about doing that.

I was really suprised when the lady said she had to have at least 6 bucks for the cutter. My buddy tried to get it out from under me but I snatched it up fast.

Brilliant. Just make sure the box is thoroughly clean and has no odor. Throwing in a couple sheets of Span. cedar wouldn't be a bad idea either.

So would it be a bad idea to line that box with the wood from the cigar box I got and use it for any kind of storage? I am a pretty fair carpenter and can make it all slip fit nicely. I figure to add a bag of beads and it could do ok for at least a few smokes. If I seal up the inside of the box itself it would help to hold humidity as well.

I'd definitely throw the cedar in there and use it as a dry box. Just throw some smokes in there for company when you need them. I'm still looking for the perfect antique ice box to convert....

Cool, thats what I will do then.

I hear you on the antique ice box. My parents have one that would be perfect and every time I go back to Texas I try to get it from them but no luck yet.

U found a Xikar cutter at a thrift shop? That's pretty random...
It was from a cigar smokers estate that they had bought stuff from. Had lighters, cutters, ash trays, and even the chair he sat in while smoking. I was pleasantly surprised.
