Small leak from humidifier after refilling?

So my Park Lane humidifier required some slight refilling today.

I followed its instructions to the T - poured a small amount of PG solution into the back, wiped off the excess fluid, then placed it in its slot on the inside of the humidor's lid.

However, I noticed that after a few minutes, there was some leakage. It was not severe enough to be dripping on my cigars, but it was giving the wood around it a "stained" look.

Here are two photos I took. The first is with the humidifier still in place, and the second shows what it looks like underneath when I take the humidifier out. I apologize for the quality, it was just a cell phone camera...

Is this normal? Should I be worried that the wood is being damaged?

Should I discontinue use of the humidifier and just stick to beads?

Yes to sticking to beads
no about the wood being ruined, that is not enough water to matter

you'll have this handled in a matter of days, don't worry too much

also you can now use that spot on the lid to attach a digital hygro, just get some stick on velcro for the hygro

My brother gave me a shotglass full of his beads. He said that was more than enough.

He said to basically check them every couple of days. If they are starting to turn white, simply add a small amount (about 2 capfulls) of either distilled water or PG solution into the glass of beads and they will re-hydrate.

Is this correct?

No, distilled water only!

Get rid of that damn PG solution, you don't need it with the beads and in my opinion you didn't need it with the Park Lane humidifier either!

OK so then with the beads...same thing...do I just use the beads? Do away with the humidifier?

And is that how the beads work? When they begin to turn white, just put a bit of distilled water in the shotglass with them?

Really? They're completely ruined?
From the Heartfelt website....

"You will notice that every time I mention the fluid that is added to the Heartfelt Humidification Beads I say “distilled water”. This is extremely important; anything other than distilled water will ultimately ruin the beads.

All the impurities in tap water will be drawn in by the beads and remain there. Ultimately the beads will get plugged up and not work anymore.

The same is true with any type of humidifier solution (also known as 50/50 solution) this will also ruin the beads in the long run."

OK, well, I ordered some more beads.

I'm sure everything will be OK for the 5 days it takes them to arrive, yes?

I'm really not liking that those wet streaks are still in the wood of the lid.

I hope there isn't any damage.

Should be fine. Its not like the wood was soaked. Spanish cedar is used because of its ability to handle moisture. Just take any humidifiers (including beads) out for a few days.

Also take a glance at the storage section or use the search function and youll find some great info on beads as well. Its really the best way to go.

When you get your beads, you might wanna leave them dry for a day or so and put them in your humi. Maybe they'll draw the moisture out of the wood and get rid of the streaking. Your smokes will eventually bounce back when you spritz the beads with distilled water.
