Went to a cigar and wine tasting event last night at the local B+M, sponsored by Cakebread Cellars and Torano Cigars. Carlos gave me a new cigar.... the Single Region Serie Jalapa. It has some 1998 criollo in it and I REALLY liked this cigar. It should be out next month and the price point is about 6 bucks. I'm not normally a Torano fan.. but this cigar rocks.

Sorry for the crappy pic.... the Cakebread Dancing Bear Ranch Cabernet was in full effect by then....

And I'm sending one to Brooks for a professional review.

I think Brooks may have already written about this one. Wish I could have gone to that event, I love Cakebread wine, and I'm also really digging the 50 years box pressed robusto.

Yep we already reviewed this cigar (very considerate of you to think of smokingstogie though! thanks!). here is the link http://thesmokingstogie.squarespace.com/home/2010/9/1/carlos-torao-single-region-jalapa-prerelease-review.html While i am glad you enjoyed it, all we experienced was a fairly boring cigar lacking in complexity. What vitola did you smoke? Im pretty sure brooks smoked the robusto. The 50 years box press robusto on the other hand was very enjoyable and is something i will be buying some of for sure.

Yes, had the 50 years toro and liked it, too. I had the robusto in the single region. It wasn't complex, but it WAS tasty, to me.
To each his own.....

Mmmmm...next best thing to cakebread is pumpkin bread and it's that time of year!! That's one of the darkest criollo wrappers I've ever seen skipper!

smoked one at the show this year, didn't find this as good as other toranos in production...find it very interesting that many are starting this single region trend though...

cheap try for those curious to taste the torano version of single crop and field.

It was really not that bad, esp for the price, just not overly complex at all...I wonder if that is because all the tobacco comes from the same region?

I think Perdomo was the first, with Lot 23, using this technique. I have only been smoking for 19 years so there may have been others previously.
Edit:All tobacco for Lot 23 comes from one farm, not one region.
