Hello again everybody!

Ok so I have an issue with a humidor I bought over the summer. I got it at JR cigar on the way down to North Carolina, and it was quite a nice looking humidor. Glass top, very beautiful. The only issue is....it doesn't maintain it's humidity very well. It might be the seal, I don't know. I have seasoned it twice, hoping that it would keep it up. I have two small 70% RH jars in there. One on the top shelf, and one underneath it. The humidity usually hangs around 63-65%, but I would much rather it be between 65-70%. I'm not sure if anyone could help me with this issue, but any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys, and it's nice to get back on board!

Regards,

Dave

I think 63-65% is perfect!

If you are unhappy though:

1 Make sure your hygro is calibrated properly
2 Check the seal using the dollar bill test. A properly sealed humi should close with a "woosh" sounds, not a fast slam.
3 If the seal is not that good, maybe some sealant is needed.
4 I would also upgrade to beads, I never trusted those RH jars as I have seen some get moldy. Another problem they have is they obviously do not absorb humidity, just release it..

Hope that helps.

Much appreciated! Ill do the dollar bill test once I google what it is...where would I get sealant if that turns out to be the issue? Ill keep an eye on it to see, but if 63-65 is alright, I don't mind one bit.

Thanks Justin!

Regards,

Dave

The one issue that alot of glass top humis have is the seal holding the glass to the top. Worst case, you may have to seal this with aquarium silicone sealant. I had to do that with a boss' humi and it worked like a charm

Dollar bill test - insert bill between lid and bottom of box, close, pull...If it comes out easy, the seal is bad, if it doesn't budge, good seal.

Not sure how to really check the seal around the glass.... I would take Bill's advice and use aquarium sealant if the glass feels loose or you feel that this step would be worth your time.

Like I said before, I aim to keep mine at 65%, so 63-65% is perfect in my book..

Ok sounds good to me! And this "Aquarium sealant" can be found at a hardware store?

I appreciate the help very much!
It is on odor free silicon based sealant, like caulk. It does not have to say Aquarium as long as it says it dries odor free.

Agreed on all of the above advice. Additionally, getting humi beads can make things a lot simpler - just moisten 'em if they start to get dry - will keep you at the humidity you want (I like 63-65% too).
