I'd like to think that those results are not typical. I know its not for me. Makes me wonder though. Good convo topic.
Agreed. I know my parents raised me the right way and most of my friends were raised similarly. Even with friends who have kids, I don't see a lot of what the article is talking about, though, you don't hear about the good ones. ;)

My guess is in a few more years kids won't even be able to speak. Complete sentences are a thing of the past. I just hear bursts of words like packets of data over the internet. I'm not sure if it's a result of non-stop texting or laziness but the end result will be an outbreak of severe audio pixelation.

Oh dear God :shame:. I gotta blame the parents. Why the fuck haven't you taught your kids basic life skills? But the other disturbing thing is that these kids apparently lack the skills to figure shit out. For example let's say you really haven't had to do laundry your entire life because your mother was a very nice lady...now you find yourself either at college or on your own (perhaps because your dad finally got tired of your parasitic life style and changed the locks :dunno:) and need to have some clean clothes. Either you need to learn how or you quickly need to find a girlfriend to take care of your ass . I mean it's not that hard to figure something like that out. And a can opener? Seriously? That's tripping you up, but you want to be trusted to operate a car?? :wtf:. One time a girlfriend forgot the can opener on a camping trip...why she packed canned food I could never figure our anyway :scratchhe...so I busted out my pocket knife and a rock. Bottom line, I got that bastard open. See problem solving skills . I'd kick my kid in the ass if he tried to pull some shit like that. Rant done .

You can not believe how much of this I see. It is a combination of parents giving their kids whatever they want so they don't have to listen to their whining, and our instant gratification society. I had a neighbor tell me I was mean for making my 12 year old daughter help me do yard work. I told him that I don't give an allowance they have to earn their spending money. They don't want to work, they don't get paid. I don't understand people sometimes.

Y'all should come take a look at the newly Enlisted in the Army.

You'll never want to have sex ever again for fear of creating something like this new generation.

When I was a kid I got home from school went out to play till dinner, ate, did my homework, showered and went to bed. No tv till Sat.cartoons Popeye, Tom n Jerry, mighty mouse etc. Sunday church and chores. No computers cell phones talked face to face. Never worried about being abducted, assaulted etc. When you lost in sports/competitions you learned how to deal with it and moved on. When you did something wrong your parents never sided with you and you took your lumps, learned and bettered yourself. You could really be a kid back then.

And we'd all be better off if this is how things stayed .

My 14 year old son cleans his room, does his own laundry, cleans his own bathroom, puts the nightly dishes in the dishwasher, and takes out the trash.

My 6 year old helps set the dinner table, helps clean his room, puts his laundry away, dresses himself every morning, and puts new trash bags in the trash containers.

Both of them play outside every day. Although we have 3 video game machines, the kids can only use them on Friday and Saturday...2 hours max...AFTER DARK!

With the exception of my redneck next door neighbor, the rest of our neighbors are offended because we make our kids work around the house. F**k my neighbors and their hippie parenting books!

A large portion of the Baby Boomers screwed the pooch when they gave their kids a free ride. I was one of the free ride kids. Luckily I saw the problem and knew I would not allow myself to perpetuate the problem.

We have some of that in our family. Some of my nieces and nephews really scare me in what they just expect to be given to them, and how little work they need to put into things. It's not just sad, but quite sickening really. Hearing a kid going "omg, wtf?" (literally, saying out those letters) grates my nerves. I guess that's why I don't want to be a parent-I don't have the tolerance to be the only one on the block (or in the family!) raising kids to earn things, and not just have it handed to them.

I played outside after school until dinner at 5:00pm then homework. Sat and Sun was outside after breakfast or church and only came in for lunch and dinner. Then back out until the streetlights came on. only time in the house was for chores.
