Yikes! I hope your smokes are OK, Thegreekone.

I've been ordering and sending all my CI purchases to my fiancee in NYC. She sent me pics of the stuff that's arrived and it's all just shrink-wrapped. No humi-packs or anything there, either.

I'm hoping both yours and mine will be able to recover with a few weeks of proper humidification!

I think both of those warrant a phone call! Prolly a new guy in the warehouse not following procedure. Youll be helping out your fellow BOTL letting them know!

of the hundreds of cigars i've purchased from ci, i've never received any package with a humidification product in it, and they shrink wrap all their 5'rs. Really not a big deal unless you are ordering from asia or something like that. couple days in the humi and they are back to normal.

I agree. I would worry more about them rattling around during shipping than I would about the humidity.

you get a humi-pak when you by singles. I bought 10 singles on a buy 4 get one free deal and it came with one in it. the one time i bought a "box" it was 20 sticks shrink-wrapped.

Will an extra few days in the shrink wrap damage the cigars at all?

They'll be in the shrink wrap until I get to NYC on Wednesday and am able to put them in my humidors.

Yikes, now you guys have me really worried.

Some of these cigars will have been in shrink wrap for more than a week before I get the chance to throw them in my humidor.

Am I risking these cigars being totally ruined?

Does the person whose house these are being shipped to have some gallon sized ziploc baggies and the ability to get some humipacks from a smoke shop? Might be able to zip them up and toss them in.

I took about 10 sticks back to Boston with me for a week last month and I was just fine with a single humi pack in a ziplock bag.

No, I don't think so.

Is there an alternate method? Should she put them in the freezer or something?

I don't want $200+ worth of cigars to go bad...

Even without a humidification system? They'll be OK for a week as long as I get them in my humidor when I get there?
Still a newbie here..

But wouldn't even just a glass of distilled water in a large Tupperware container help? :dunno:

Whew! *wipes brow*

Final question - should she take them out of their shrink wrap to place them in the tupperware? Or does it not really matter?

No the shrink wrap will not hurt your cigars, it will acctually make any change dude to no humidor take longer.

No, just put them in normally when you get there, and they will be fine.

Good lord NO, there is only one reason to ever freeze your cigars, and this is not it. There is a specific method to do it when you do. NO NEED TO FREEZE

Yeah, seal em up in a small tupperware of Ziploc, they'll be fine for a week.

NO, that would allow then to be overhumidified, which can be worse than slightly dry. Also how certain ae you a glass of water in a tupperware container won't spill. Swoosh, cigars are soaked.

I say leave the shrink wrap on. When they shipped, they were most likely a tad over humidified, to help with shipping. The more barriers you have between you smokes ans the outside world the better. Less air flow means change until you get them in the humidor.

Mods, can we take all posts regarding this and create a thread in the storage forum?
