Before the days of the Fuente Anejo back in the mid 90's there was a cigar called El Sublimado...it was a honduran tobacco aged in casks of 50 year old French Cognac...had a dark green band with a gold rooster...rated a 93 in CA magazine and was damn tasty...one of my all time favorites.....the brand went under after a few years (have no idea why) and was later reinvented under the brand La Diva (went out of business as well)...I scored 2 boxes of old stock and they were no where near what I remember of the old El Sublimado.....any one remember these? :cjump:

:dunno: Wish I could help. I imagine if the sticks are that old either they are no longer available or the flavor has changes for the worse over the years.

I remember the name and sorta remember the ads. Never tried one - thought it was too gimmicky at the time. FWIW.

Yeah, they were very pricey even back in the early to mid 90's. The Cognac made them worth more.
Not a bad smoke but I just hated the amounts of alcohol flavor I got from it.
I will tell you that the owner was hot.
I wish I could remember her name......

Yeah they were like 8-$9 a pop but well worth it...I like the Anejo sherry flavor but I liked the cognac on the El Sublimados much better. :starrylov

Where can you buy them at?
Javier's Mexican Restaurant in Dallas is currently the only place... I'm not actually sure if there's any in there currently though.

To my understanding, they're trying to get back some distribution by the end of the year, but I'm not sure how that will work.

I'll post info once I know more.

Wow, thanks for revivng this thread.

I loved these back in the day, although they were a little pricey for me.

I havent smoked one of these in along time, I still have a few.
Ran down to my coolerdor and snapped a couple of pics.
Not the best quality pics, I'm a piss poor photographer. :sadstare:
And the date stamp is wrong lol.

I just joined here, as I came here because of a search for the Sublimado. I scored a box of these from a non-smoking friend. i haven't a clue how they have been maintained, but I think they were just put in a closet, in the original box. I have them in my humidor, but wondering how long to leave them there, before I try one? They feel dry, to the touch. Have a great aroma.

I'm no expert, but since nobody else has chimed in I'll give you my .02
Depending on how long the cigars went without proper humidification it is possible that the oils from the tobacco has dried out/evaporated completely from the cigars.
Now that doesnt mean you cant re-humidify them, it just means they have lost alot of the flavor due to the lack of the oils.
Most would consider cigars gone this far to be dead, not worth smoking.
If by some chance these cigars have not lost all of the oils and you re-humidify them you should be able to enjoy them.
All that aside, I would suggest giving them several weeks in a properly set up/maintained humidor and then re-asses them.
Let us know how you make out.
