I remember those!! They were ok but had an odd flavor and were way overpriced! I remember 12-15 bucks a stick. I don't think they sold that well.

I found 5 of these puppies in my stash. 3 of them are El Sublimado, and 2 are El Incomparable. The El Sublimados state "50 Year Old Cognac" and "Dominican Tobacco - Hand Made in Honduras" on their cream colored aluminum tubes. The El Incomparables are the same except "25 Year Old Whiskey, Single Malt Springbank" and "Hand Made in Honduras" is written on their tan colored aluminum tubes. All cigars are wrapped in cedar sheets within the tubes and are extreme torpedo shapes, about 7" long by 36-54 ring gauge. I opened one of the El Sublimados to smoke (& get the tube - as a traveling case for my insulin pen), and it appears to be in great shape except for a little fraying at the foot. No mold, no worms. Its a little dried out but so would you be after 15 years in an aluminum tube. I'm going to put it in the cedar box out on the lenai for a couple of weeks to slowly come to optimum. I'll write back and let you all know how it smokes.

This is the real story of the "EL SUBLIMADO cigar: The reason I know, is because I used to distribute them. The tobacco was not Honduran, it was dominican, from the Cibao valley. the owners were a Father and daughter from France. the reason the company went belly up was because of fighting between the two. The daughter started another company, and called the cigar "La Diva". she told me she wanted to create a cigar for women. What a "DUNCE"! By elliminating 98% of her market target, she obviously went broke. I believe that there is a ,market for this type of cigar again, and I dont think the "Gurka" would compare if you obtained the right tobacco, and the same cognac.

that is the true story!!!

I just joined here, as I came here because of a search for the Sublimado. I scored a box of these from a non-smoking friend. i haven't a clue how they have been maintained, but I think they were just put in a closet, in the original box. I have them in my humidor, but wondering how long to leave them there, before I try one? They feel dry, to the touch. Have a great aroma.
Personally, I suggest that you give it at least 4 months before you try them, if not 6 months. I bought 2 boxes of 5 year old cigars either 4 or 5 months ago, one size had absolutely no draw and didn't taste good, and the other was "okay at best". I pulled out the one that didn't draw, and after I recut the tip a second time to improve the draw a little more, i got More than my money's worth!

"Mitch" (a great botl btw) brought back some 90yr old cubans over a 6mo period, and I was priveleged to enjoy one! I can tell you now that the experience would not have been the same if he'd only let them sit for a few weeks! I hope that helps you brotha.

:scratchhe What a strange thread, two first time posters and a handful of brothers replying to zombies. :dunno:
